Chapter 9: Wedding prep

The wedding was fast approaching. 

The house was already packed with people as the wedding was in two weeks . Yasmin was told that the kayan lefe were to be brought today. Traditionally, on the day the kayan lefe will be brought by the groom's family, the bride should not be seen in the house. So aunty zainab her aunt called maryam and told her to keep Yasmin out till Magrib (sun set).

"Where are we going to? " Yasmin asked as soon as got in the car.
"I got a call from the tailors and they want us to come in for the fittings before we get them next week"
"Where's that your aunt that imports jewelries from dubai and India" Yasmin asked maryam
"Ohh Aunty Safrah" she said " we can go there straight after the fitting. Kinga then we know the specific type that will match your dresses"
"Tohm shikenan"

Yasmin was in awe when she saw all her dresses. It looked straight out of La La Land. Never had she thought of getting married so soon.
She looked down to see that my phone was ringing.
"Hello" she said
"Amarcy ta ango" she heard someone giddily say
"La illah khadija yakike(khadija how are you)" she said while laughing
"Wallahi lafiya kalau kinganmu ana shigo mana da akwatinan ki(i'm fine. I'm here watching them bring in your boxes" she said "ashe mai ido da kwalli kika dako mana(so you're getting married to a rich guy)"
"What does that even mean?"she asked laughing
"Ina Amina(where's amina)"
"Wlh duk gamunan a gidanku(we're all here at your house)" she said "bye bye bari nabawa idanu na abinci(direct translation 😂 - let me give my eyes food)""Wallahi you'll never change " Yasmin said while laughing

"Kigaishe da maryam kice nace kinbude fili saura kuma su(my regards to maryam, tell her i said that she's next)"

"Tohm shikenan(okay then)" Yasmin said

 
Maryam looked at Yasmin  "khadija ce ko(it'S khadija right)" she said

"Wallahi" she said " tace saura ke(she said that it's your turn next) " she added

"Yanzu kuma ai na bani(I'm done)" she said while shaking her head.

After the dress fittings, they went to anty safrah's house and choose jewelries that matched with all the dresses.

"Should we stop and get ice cream since there's still time" Yasmin asked.

"Wallahi kamar kin shiga raina(it's as if you read my mind)" she said

 We stopped at The Icy place.

"Hello" Yasmin said to the server "i'd like one cotton candy ice cream and one caramel ice cream"

"Muje mu zauna(let's go and sit down)" maryam said while pointing towards the seats

"Wallahi i still can't believe bikin nan sauran 2 weeks(the wedding is in 2 weeks)" maryam said 

"when was the last time you saw him?"

"The time you called him to the hospital"

"Tun kafin asa rana?(before the date was set?)" she asked.

"Yeah" she said looking down

"In shaa Allah all will be well"

"In shaa Allah "

"Kalli har magrib ta wuce, tashi mutafi(it's past magrib, let's go)" she said suddenly.

As soon as we entered the house, the attention turned directly onto them

"Oyoyo amarya(here comes the bride)"

They greeted them and went up to Yasmin's room.

As soon as they opened the door, they saw two people on my bed.

"You guys were having fun without us" Maryam said while shaking my head.

Amina and khadija looked at maryam and screamed

 
"Yaushe rabo" they said as they hugged her

"I'm glad to see that you guys are happy to see me" Yasmin said sarcastically

 
Amina is 26 while Khadija is 22. Amina got married last year. Both of them live in abuja so we hardly get to meet. They're Yasmin's cousins.

"Ahh wa yaga Yasmin a gidan miji(imagine yasmin in her husband's house)" khadija said while looking at maryam.

"Hmm ke de bari" amina said. "Kamar ba ita bace tace mana bayanzu zatayi aure ba (as if it wasn't her that said she wasn't getting married soon)"

"Kinsan(do you know) they brought 25 boxes" khadija said

"Dan Allah(really?)" Yasmin asked looking shocked

"Wallahi" she said. "everything has its own box."

"Allah yabar ku tare(May Allah keep you together)" amina said

"Ameen ameen"
