Chapter One
Lucian
I ran my fingers through my hair and rested my elbows on my desk. I was suppose to be giving up, not looking for her! I felt a stray tear run down my cheek and I scowled. Alpha's don't cry! I growled at myself and stood up, staring down at the maps I had on my desk and sighed. She was no where to be found...becasue she didn't exist. I didn't have a Mate. There was a knock at the door and I immediately knew who it was. "Come in, mother." The door creaked open and she came in with a glass of lemonade.
"Hey, honey."
"Yes, Moon Goddess?"
She sighed. "You know I hate when you call me that."
"Sorry."
"Any luck?"
"You know the answer to that." She put that lemonade down on my desk amongst the maps and took in a deep breath. "Don't say it. I know what you're going to say and I don't want to hear it again." She pursed her lips and nodded.
"Drink your lemonade." Before I could I say I wasn't thirsty she disappeared. I hate when she did that. I had no Mate she just didn't want to tell me. I sighed and picked up the lemonade, scowling at the ring of condensation on one of the maps. It was right in the middle of Rouge Territory, a place we never ventured. I spit out my drink. A place we never ventured...we never went there...I felt a pull to that small ring and I knew that my mother had left me a clue. My Mate was in the middle of Rouge Territory and that's why I never found her. She was in trouble, I just knew it! I took the map and mind-linked my Beta, Garrett, to put together a rescue party.
For who?
For my Mate.
I'm coming, my love!
????
I groveled in the darkness, trying to seem weak for their satisfaction. It would be over in a little bit. They seemed to like my discomfort and pain. My world had been dark since the day I was born, but I could see heat signatures. Anytime someone was near me I knew it which is why I never liked being around a lot of people because their heat all blurred together and it confused me sometimes. If the person was friendly It would be an orange glow and if they weren't it was red and there was a whole lot of red around me.
I was captured when I was six from my pack and I couldn't remember a single thing about it. They took me and made me a servant girl for the kitchen and dining rooms. I don't remember my parent's scent, but I knew that I had parents and an older sister because they would torment me with stories about out they raped and tortured my mother and her before they killed them. I didn't know if I had a brother, but I used to dream of him coming in here and saving me from these animalistic men. They said they beheaded my father and paraded it around the territory for months. The stories went on and on. I accepted I would be here for the rest of my life at the age of eleven.
When I reached my teenage years they finally decided I was over being a servant girl and I could move on. They said I would get more food if I accepted and, thinking it was just the cook or head maid, I did and it was the worst mistake of my life. I was in my cell just laying on my bed when two men opened the door and snickered. "This is her?" one said. "She's much too plump! We'll have to f*ck her down a size or two." They come onto me as I screamed, tearing my clothes and pulling my hair. I was only thirteen when I lost my virginity...it was on my birthday. Thinking about it made me shiver in disgust, making the man who was currently using me to pump harder.
When he was done, he threw me on the ground and zipped up his pants, chuckling. "You are a dirty little lover, aren't ya, baby?" I didn't respond and he bellowed out a laugh. "I'll be back when my shift ends." He grabbed my jaw in his hand and licked up my neck, leaving. When he was gone I wrapped a thin blanket around my frail body and sighed. This was my life now and there was no way out of it. The creaking of the cell door opening caught my attention and I tensed. I looked up and saw an orange glow and based on the size of the glow it was a girl; I was right. She entered in without a word, putting a cold rag on my forehead and giving me a glass of water that I drank in a few seconds.
"Why are your eyes bandaged? Did they do something to them?" She asked in the silence.
"No," I rasped. "It's been there since I've been here. It gives them satisfaction of the fact that I'm blind, but I can see heat signatures through it."
"You're blind?" I nodded. "Do you think we'll ever be free?"
"No."
"And she's right, Mary, you'll never be free," a voice said from outside the cell. I knew who that was. I tensed and held the blanket closer to me; he was a regular, but he also happened to be head guard. His name was Rex and he was a complete monster. I heard a smack echo out and I knew he had slapped her. "I'll deal with you later," he said to her. "Get out!" She scurried out, taking the rag and glass, leaving me with him. "Talking to the maids now, are we? You never speak to anyone else." I stayed silent and put my head down. "If it were up to me, you'd be my Mate...that way we wouldn't have had to get rid of the baby." I felt a tear fall down my cheek and he wiped it away. "It's okay, love, we can always try again..."
