I was a complete mess, running around everywhere and searching around where I could think of. I panicked, putting my hands behind my head. Where else could I go? I didn't know where else to turn! I went out to the garden again and was greeted with a small giggle. I jerked and followed the sound through the bushes, around a few trees, and I relaxed upon seeing Fae sitting across the river against a tree. She was shaded by its huge leaves, a deer setting its head on her lap. She was petting it softly, humming as she did. She looked up in my direction and smiled. I crossed the river and the deer stood, running away.

"I could feel your panic from all the way out here."

"Don't ever run off like that again, okay? We haven't fully mated yet so we can't link each other." I took her in my arms and set her in my lap.

"We have mated...."

"But not fully."

"What do you mean?"

"You don't know?" She shook her head. "We have yet to mark each other."

"What's a mark?"

"A bite mark; it symbolizes that I am yours and you are mine, so that everyone knows you are mated to someone." 

"How come we haven't done that?" 

"I...don't know. Do you want to?" She smiled and nodded. 

"I want to be with you in every way." I smiled and kissed her, savoring in her luscious lips. She sighs in content, pulling me closer to her. 

"Are you sure?"

"Of course." I nodded and brushed her midnight hair to the side, kissing up her neck. When I found her spot I sank my canines into her, marking her as mine. A growl erupted from her and I felt her teeth bite into my neck. I pulled back, licking the wound so it would heal faster and she did the same. "That's it?"

"That's it, baby."

"Woah! How'd you do that?!"

"Just call out to me in your mind and I'll answer. Think it."

"Hello?"

"Hello." 

"I did it?!"

"You did it" I chuckled.

"I did it!"

"You've never known of the mark?"

"Never. I was six when I was taken and my parents never got to really explain any of that." 

"Do you remember them?"

"No."

"Oh."

"The guards would tell me stories."

"About your parents?"

"And my sister; that's the only reason I knew I had one. They told me about how they tortured and raped her and my mother, killing them after a month. They told me of all the ways they tortured my father, beheading him and parading his remains around the rouge pack. That is all I know of my family. I used to dream that I had a brother and he would come to save me, but no one ever came." 

"I-I'm so sorry." 

"It's alright, she sent me you and I couldn't be happier." 

I smiled and kissed her forehead. My mate had been through Hell and back, surviving. "I can't imagine..." 

"I have you, Luc."

"And you'll always have me, baby." No matter what, I was going to protect my little mate. Nothing was ever going to harm her.
