"Fae?!"
"Yes?"
"Where is my-"
"Top drawer to the right!"
"Ah." I grabbed my watched and put it on. "Honey, we're gonna be...late." I looked over at my Mate who was absolutely stunning.

The gown looked like something that a Luna Queen would wear, but it also fit her style and modesty too. I smiled and lightly kissed her. I didn't want lipstick all over me until later on tonight.
"Yes, of you keep staring at me like that we will be late and trust me when I say that it is not easy to get this dress on and off." I let out a playful growl and guided her to the ballroom where we were announced and bowed to. All of the Alphas and their Lunas were here tonight to celebrate our love and I was definitely going to show them how much I adore my Mate. I kissed her hand and led us to the head of the table where we could eat. We stood in front of them and I raised my hand, the chatter dying away.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, we are here to celebrate the love that the Moon Goddess has brought to our lives. The love that mates share is incomprehensible and unbreakable. My Mate and I share the honor of opening our home to you for this Luna Ball tonight. Alphas, don't be afraid to show your affection for your Luna, but you know the rules and we have plenty of guest bedrooms." There were faint chuckles and I smiled when Fae elbowed my side.
"We have all come to celebrate our love, but let us not forget of the love that came before us," my Mate said, her silk voice falling over the crowd. It commanded attention without being threatening. "Love has no boundaries and so we shouldn't either. Enjoy your night here at the palace and I want to see everyone dancing!" We sat down and waiters came out with the food as the chatter rose again. I kissed Fae's hand, looking into her light eyes. She couldn't see me, but I could see her.
You look absolutely stunning, my love...as always.
Thank you. I can't wait to see everything.
What do you mean?
I will play the evening out as a dream when I go to bed tonight. That's how I am able to see.
And somehow you still open your sight to me when we make love.
That's different.
Is it?
Yes.
How so?
Because seeing you so intimately on one occasion is better than seeing 1,000 Luna Balls.
You said balls.
Really, Lucian, really?!
I had to keep myself from laughing at our little conversation. Gosh I loved having a Mate! After dinner we chatted with a few people and watched couples on the dance floor. Well, I did. I kissed Fae's cheek and went to talk with Alpha Curtis. I hadn't seen him in so long...not since my mother's funeral.
"Curtis!"
"Luc, my man, how are you?"
"Doing alright. How is Mary?"
"About ready to burst. She couldn't make it tonight."
"Too bad. Fae and her really seem to like each other."
"You should dance with your Mate, Luc."
"Huh?"
"Dance with her. Look," he pointed to my Mate who sat all alone. "Look how she gazes at the couples in longing. Sweep her off her feet!" I smiled and nodded, thanking him. I went behind her, kissing her jaw.
"What is wrong, my love?"
"Nothing," she smiled.
I sighed and grabbed her hand, bowing. "May I have this dance, Luna Queen?" Her smile lit up the room. She took my hand, standing.
"You may, but I don't really know how to dance."
"It's alright. I do, so you have nothing to worry about. Just relax, love, I'll take care of you. Do you trust me?"
"Yes."
"Good." She rested her head on my chest as we started to move and I silently thanked my mother for all those dance lessons I thought were useless.
~***~
"Thank you for coming," I said, shaking Curtis' hand. "And I wish that Mary could've come too."
"She would've had a blast. I-" suddenly his eyes looked like they were glazed over. He was getting a message over mind link. "I-I have to go! Mary is having the baby and it's three weeks earlier than expected. Goodbye!" He raced out the door. I sighed and went upstairs to change clothes. I pulled off my jacket, tie, and shoes while I sat on the bed and stood up for the rest. I had to admit that I was worried for their child. A baby that was born early was dangerous. The pup could die if they weren't stable. Curtis and Mary had a son, Justin, who was just fine. I would hate to see them lose one; they didn't deserve that.
"Layla will be just fine," Fae said, suddenly behind me. I jumped a little in surprise; I hadn't even heard the bathroom door open. "She was born early for a purpose and oh, she will do such great things. She is a warrior." She sounded completely in love with this child. "She'll have to learn a lesson or two, but when her Mate comes...it'll all be worth it."
My Mate was such a wonderful woman.
