"Would you like some pancakes, love?" I looked up at my Mate and smiled.

"I'd love some, baby." She set down a pile of pancakes and kissed my lips. I had been basically living in my office for the last few month because of the serious Rouge problem along the borders and the boundary lines. They haven't attacked anyone, but they're watching to see our weaknesses. I have doubled security and tripled the amount of warriors in training. I'm also getting in touch with all the alphas; there was an all-out war coming and I could feel it. The rouges were rallying, but so were we.

"Maybe it's time for a break."

I sighed. "I can't."

"But-"

"Fae, please don't try and argue with me; I'm doing this for you," I told her, placing my hands on her waist, "and our future too." I kissed her stomach.

"I visited Nala, but..."

"What'd she say?"

"It's just a stomach bug." I sighed and nodded, but she couldn't see me. We'd been trying and I knew that nothing was going to happen right away, but I also knew how desperately Fae wanted a pup.

"We'll try again later, baby."

"Alpha Riley and Luna Alexandra just brought home a pup."

"Oh really?"

"Yes. A strong alpha male named David."

"We will have to send something to congratulate them."

"Already done, my darling. I sent a letter signed from the both of us along with diapers and a cute, little wolf toy."

"Oh. Alright." I turned back to my computer and continued typing. I heard her sigh and she walked out, shaking her head. I hated to disappoint her, but I just had to get this done and I couldn't play with the fact it either protected my family or not. I couldn't shake the feeling of mate's longing for me and not in the way one might think, but just wanting to spend time with me; I missed her. I sighed and shook my head as I pulled myself away from my desk, mind-linking Garrett to take over my work for the time being.

I followed Fae's scent to our bedroom where I opened the door to see her reading a brail book: How to be a Better Wife. "You're already perfect. Wouldn't you rather read some cheesy romance novel?"

She chuckled. "My life already is one." I smiled and kissed her cheek, sitting next to her.

"What makes it a cheesy romance novel?"

"You."

"Me?"

"Of course." I rolled my eyes and kissed her nose.

"You're really something."

"Will we ever get married?"

"Married?"

"Yeah."

"I guess we could, but we don't have to unless you want...if it makes you feel more secure."

"No, I don't."

"How about I get you a ring and we just skip the ceremony?"

"Sounds like a plan," she smiled. "Where's your mom? I haven't seen her in a while?"

"Don't you two have a special connection? Ask her."

"She won't let me in."

"Oh. She's probably just really focused with her Goddess stuff."

"Maybe. Will she choose a successor soon?"

"I hope not."

"Why?"

"When a Moon Goddess chooses her successor...she dies right after."

"Oh! I'm so sorry."

"It's okay, you didn't know." I took the book from her hands and set it on the night stand. "But I meant what I said about you being perfect. I'm just obsessing over keeping you safe is all."

"I know, but we're all going to be okay."

"I hope so."

"Don't worry too much, dear, you'll get frown lines." I laughed and attached my lips to her's.

"Frown lines, huh?"

"Mhm," she giggled. "And wrinkles. Oh, there's one already!"

"Why you little-" I pounced on her and covered her with kisses. I was going to enjoy little moments like these with her. The Alphas were gathering their troops and I was gathering mine, we'd surround them and take them out. I had to stop think about work when I was with her.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes, baby, I'm great."

"You seem preoccupied."

"Work."

"Of course," she laughed.

"I'm sorry."

"You are an alpha."

"An alpha who wants his Mate and pack safe."

"A good alpha."

"I can only hope to be."

"You are."

"Thank you." I really didn't deserve her.
