- The Lonely ~ Christina Perri

For the next two weeks I had trouble sleeping. Turns out that I woke up at six thirty a.m. every morning in Narnia. Eva started to complain that she could hear me. I was just grateful that neither her or Harry asked about the whole breakdown.

I was also grateful that my room was around the corner, for Eva wasn't be able to hear me crying myself to sleep every night. Yeah, that was something I wanted to avoid, too. I was rummaging through the hallway closet looking for Harry's duvet covers, when I tripped on a box and fell into the closet further.

I squeezed my eye shut, waiting for the painful impact of the wall and shelves. Only it didn't come. I was extremely surprised when I found myself on white, marble. I was in my Narnian bedroom. My mouth formed a grin instantly and I started to laugh.

This was unreal. I was actually back. "Thank you Aslan!" I said to the air. Changing into a navy shirt with sky blue stitching, brown legging-pants, my brown boots, and red leather gauntlets, I stuffed my other clothes back into the wardrobe.

It must not have been that long because Fortis was right where I left it. I heard a knock on the door and was happily surprised to see Tumnus. "Mr. Tumnus!" He smiled at me oddly. "General, did you change clothes? My, you look different from an hour ago." My eyes widened. An hour?

Perfect. "Wow really? I lost track of time. Do we have a plan?" I asked, remembering our predicament. He wrung his hands and said, "We're going to tell them. People have been asking me if they knew where they went."

I bit my lip. "Blimey. What've you been telling them?" "I told them I haven't seen them." I gave him an exasperated look. "So basically you lied." He shook his head. "It's true, I'm just withholding information. It's best if we tell everyone together and calmly."

I ran a hand through my hair. "This is extremely messed up. I half wish someone married. At least then we'd have someone to rule us." Tumnus nodded and left. After a few minutes, I left my room and took a tour of the castle, refreshing my memory of the place I loved so much.

When I passed the Kings' and Queens' hallway, I felt a pang in my chest. Sure, most of it went away when I realized where I was, but some remained for the Pevensies. I stopped for some reason in front of Peter's door.

Is it wrong to go in his room? I mean he isn't gonna catch me... Taking that as an okay, I quietly slipped into his room. It felt like just yesterday I was sitting with him in here, preparing for the Ettinsmoor War. A tear trickled down my face as I brushed my hand against the cover of a book that he had been reading.

Wiping the tears away, I turned and walked to the door. Time to grow up and somehow manage a country.

I stood in front of a lot of Narnia's population, holding one of my shaking hands in the other. Everyone was staring quietly at me and Tumnus. I cleared my throat and took a shaky breath. "Alright, listen up. I know many of you are curious to what's going on...and why the Kings and Queens haven't returned from their hunting trip."

I eyed the crowd and saw worried looks. "They have not been kidnapped or killed. Everybody take a deep breath. They have however been taken back to their world by Aslan." I watched nervously as more worried faces appeared.

"Who's going to rule us now?" A voice shouted. I bit my lip and looked at Tumnus. He turned to the crowd and said, "High King Peter left myself and the General in charge. We will do our bests to manage Narnia." I let out a shaky breath and nodded. This was definitely going to be hard.

Somehow, in a matter of days, the entire continent knew about the Pevensies leaving. Unfortunately, some didn't take it as well as others. I walked away from a complaining Mole and went to find Tumnus. He looked as exhausted as I felt. "Just got rid of my eighth complainer." I sighed, sitting down beside him. He muttered something incoherently and and continued to read his book. Oreius trotted into the room, looking quite ticked.

Here we go. "General, might you come and assist me down at the training fields? I'm having trouble with some of the new recruits." I nodded and followed the Centaur. I watched a group of soldiers giggling and talking in a corner.

"OI." I shouted, taking all my frustration and anger out from under the surface. Everyone looked up at me, some even cowering at my angry frame. I marched over to them and towered menacingly. "What do you think this is? Playtime? Well newsflash this is an army. There's no time for dillydallying. You should be training to fight for Narnia and your life."

I must've seemed quite threatening, because one was shaking in their boots. "Go run twenty laps. Now." Scurrying off, I watched as those chickens started to run like girls. Scoffing, I turned back to Oreius. "Tell me if I need to yell at someone else. I need to get this crappy feeling out of my system."

Oreius chuckled and nodded, trotting off to help some archers. A few soldiers were standing around doing nothing. I will not have slackers on my watch. I drew Fortis and waved at them. "Hey you lot! Come at me bros." Although I received odd looks, they charged at me.

Thrust. Block. Duck. Block. Kick. Parry. Block. I did my 360 swing and knocked a sword out of one's hand. Ducking, I hooked my feet around another's ankles, sending them to the ground sprawled. Thrust. Parry. Parry. Block. The last two soldiers were good.

I had to use my gauntlets as shields occasionally to block a clever parry. I kicked one of the two's chest and sent him flying backwards. Now it was one on one. I locked eyes with the Dryad and side-stepped a strong swing.

Another reason I loved swordfighting was because it distracted me easily. I could lose my mind and thoughts, just focusing on beating my opponent. The duel went on for a while, until I finally disarmed him. Wiping the beads of sweat across my forehead, I breathed, "You're...a strong swordsman. I'm impressed. Thanks for the workout, I needed to get my mind off things."

He smiled and saluted me, walking back to his moaning friends. I chuckled and started to walk back to the castle, until a voice called my name. "GENERAL. GENERAL LAUREL." I jerked around and saw a Centaur from my morning classes cantering towards me.

"What is it Whysall?" He took a deep breath and said, "I've just been notified by one of the Western Wood patrol officers. Beaversdam has been overtaken." My eyes widened. "What?" I asked sharply. "The Narnians in that area have surrendered their city. There is an invasion on the way."

"Who are the invaders?"

"The Telmarines."
