The next morning felt different than any other morning. The dismal, gray sky flooded into the room through the high panels. I don't think I've ever experienced such a gloomy May before. I headed to the bathroom and freshened up for the day.

I walked with Ginny and Luna in silence as we made our way to breakfast. "I heard that we have a quiz in Dark Arts." Luna told me quietly. I groaned and ran a hand through my curly hair. "By the Lion's Mane." I whispered to myself.

"Sorry?" Ginny frowned. I shook my head. "Nothing." She nodded and sat down at the table. The owls flew through the roof and started to deliver mail. A small weight seemed to fall off my shoulders. At least one thing hadn't changed.

Hermes dropped me today's copy of The Daily Prophet. The title read 'EVALUATION AT MINISTRY LEAVES WIZARDS REPLACED'. I gulped and set the paper down. I knew exactly what had happened. Anyone Muggleborn or thought to be had been jailed or worse.

I wrung my sweaty hands and stared down at my untouched oatmeal. Suddenly I wasn't hungry anymore. Gee I wonder why. I let out a shaky breath and collected my books. Time to go to Dark Arts. I looked around and adjusted my bookbag strap. For once, there was actually desks. On each space, there was a sheet of parchment. Our quiz. I sat with Neville and shared a nervous look with him. "You may begin." Amycus Carrow told us. I picked up my quill and stared at the first question in horror.

1. If you were to come across a Mudblood that saw you use magic, what would you do?

a. Wipe their memory.

b. Use the Imperius Curse on them.

c. Give them to Snatchers.

d. Give them to werewolves.

What kind of quiz is this?! I searched through the rest of the quiz and found that the questions only got worse with each number. Clenching my jaw, I stood up and handed my quiz in blank. Amycus stared at me in blank rage. "Think you're funny don't you? Turning in your quiz blank?"

I stared at him and didn't even flinch as he slapped me. "If you didn't have that necklace of yours, you'd be a dead Mudblood right now." he whispered. I inhaled sharply. "Are you threatening me, Carrow? Because I will not hesitate to rip your head off as a lion."

It felt weird to address an adult like that, but he was a Death Eater. Pleasure washed through me as his face drained its color. His hand met my cheek again, but I held my ground, where a few months ago I would've fallen at the impact. Basically, I've been so worn down I don't feel much anymore.

I walked down the corridor of the seventh floor, rubbing my eyes. Today was extremely exhausting, I'll probably have to use my magic to pull my answers out of my fried brain. As I walked into the Room, I saw that the portrait had been opened.

I frowned and walked over to Luna. "Who went through to Aberforth?" She gave me a tired smile. "Ariana came and took Neville." I sat down at the table, getting my homework ready. She took out her own homework and muttered runes on her textbook. There wasn't much homework for anyone this year, for the teachers, not including the Carrows, felt guilty for the beatings we've been getting. I heard chatter echoing and looked up at the portrait.

Neville had come back, but was grinning like a madman. I haven't seen that expression on him in a very long time. "Listen up you lot! Brought you a surprise." he called. We looked up at him and Seamus cracked a joke. "Not more of Aberforth's cookin' I hope. Be surprised if we could digest it." "Yeah, I don't want to deal with that doctoring again." I chuckled.

He smirked at us and moved out of the way. Harry, Ron, and Hermione came through the door. I sat there in awe as everyone around me stood up and cheered. Eva ran through the crowd and attempted to get to the front.

Harry saw her and gave her a bear hug. She looked like she was crying again. Harry muttered something in her ear and she turned to look through the crowd. I stood up and walked through the crowd involuntarily, like a ghost.

Harry saw me and let go of Eva. I stared at him and then broke into a sprint as he caught me. His body slammed into mine, engulfing me in a hug. A few tears leaked from my eyes as I buried my face in the crook of his neck.

"Oh Laurel. Laurel." He whispered, caressing my hair. I pulled away and smiled widely at him. "I've missed you so much." His eyes widened, looking over my cuts and bruises. "Neville said that you were worse than him. He wasn't kidding."

I shrugged and gave Ron and Hermione hugs as well. Neville same through and ushered us back. "Okay, okay don't kill him before You-Know-Who has the chance." I gave him a look and he shut up. Harry, Ron, and Hermione now stood in front of us.

"There's something we need to find, hidden here in the castle. And it may help us defeat You-Know-Who." I flinched, forgetting that Voldemort's name is being tracked now. I don't think I've ever heard Harry use that name for him.

He means that there's a Horcrux at Hogwarts, I realized. Neville nodded. "Right, what is it?" Harry paused. "We don't know." I bit my lip and tried, "Where is it?" Harry blanched, looking sheepish. "We don't know that either. I realize that's not much to go on." Silence. "That's nothing to go on." Seamus told him.

If this wasn't such a serious matter, I might have laughed. "I think it has something to do with Ravenclaw.
It'll be small, easily concealed. Anyone, any ideas?" Harry tried again. I chewed on my lip, trying to think of anything. "Well, there's Rowena Ravenclaw's lost diadem." Luna said softly.

"Oh, bloody hell! Here we go!" Ron muttered. I shot him a deadly look. "Lost diadem of Ravenclaw? Hasn't anyone heard of it? It's quite famous." She sounded slightly incredulous. I wanted to slap my bruised forehead. Ravenclaw's diadem? We'd have a better chance looking for Atlantis!

"Yes. But, Luna, it's lost for centuries. There's not a person alive today who's seen it." Cho Chang told her. I stiffened and shifted my weight. I had forgotten that she was here. "Excuse me, can someone tell me what bloody diadem is?" Ron asked.

"It's a sort of crown. You know, like a tiara." Cho told him. "Harry!" Ginny called. I turned to see her standing at the end of the pathway. Harry stared at her with a look of wanting and awe. "Hi, there." he breathed.

I smiled behind the fist in front of my mouth. To be honest, I half expected them to run to each other and make out. Ron probably ruined it. "Six months she hasn't seen me and it's like I'm a frankie First Year. I'm her brother!" Ron exclaimed.

"She got lots of them, but she got only one Harry." Seamus pointed out. Ron glared at him. "Shut up, Seamus!" I snickered quietly. "What is it, Ginny?" Hermione asked, breaking Harry and Ginny's gazes. "Snape knows...he knows that Harry was busted in Hogsmeade."

Quiet murmurs flooded the room. "You got busted in Hogsmede? Oh Harry." I cried. He winced. "Do I want to know what you're thinking?" I sighed and forced myself not to curl up in a ball and cry. "If Snape knows then he'll be coming soon. War is coming."
