The next day I wake up early because the sun is shining in my eyes, exactly through a split in the curtains. I lay in my bed for a while trying to go back to sleep. It doesn't work so I decide to put on some clothes and read a book outside, in the sun. I put on my sweatpants and a crop top, grab my favorite book and head outside.
I've been sitting in the sun for a while when my parents wake up. 'Good morning, early bird', they say when they see me. 'Will you get us some bread? We can't have breakfast otherwise', my mom asks me. I sigh and say fine.
They give me some money for the bread. I doubt wether I should change into different clothes or not. Why would I change? It's vacation. I put my hair into a quick bun and head to the small camping shop. When I'm walking I notice the nice weather. I like it here. Hopefully, I'll soak up some more sun and turn slightly tanned. Small chance, though. I usually turn into a lobster when laying in the sun for too long.
I enter the small shop and notice the air conditioning is working way too hard here, it's nearly cold. I scrunch my eyebrows and try to find more warmth in my sweater. Which there isn't. I look around and I see the bread isle. I find the bread we usually get here easily and head to the cash desk.
All of a sudden someone bumps into me and since I am pretty short and do not have any shape or form of balance, I lose my balance. I notice I am falling and hope I don't hit the ground too hard and embarrass myself in front of the entire store. I know I will, though. I'm good at embarrassing myself in public situations.
The bread falls out of my hands, but I don't really notice. I close my eyes, preparing myself for falling onto the ground. I now know what people mean by time slowing down. It does feel like I'm falling for, like, ever. It sounds really stupid, but it does feel like that.
Suddenly I feel a strong arm around my waist. I open my eyes carefully, not really realizing what had just happened and I look into the beautiful blue green eyes of none other than Tal. He literally appeared out of nowhere.
I quickly get myself together and stand up straight again. 'You okay?' he asks. 'Yeah, I'm fine, thanks.' I reply. I grab my bread from the ground, ashamed of what had happened and that I looked like a complete fool in front of Tal. I'm probably blushing since I feel that it's suddenly a lot warmer in here. 'Is this worth your number?' he asks with a cute smile.
After I payed for the bread we walk out of the shop and head to a bench close by to sit down. 'Thank you for catching me', I said to him. 'No problem', he answers. 'And yes, this is definitely worth my number', I say, laughing. We exchange numbers and then I realize I was getting bread for our breakfast and my parents are waiting for me to come back.
'My parents are waiting for me. I was going to get bread for them', I say to Tal, sort of nodding at the bread. 'And thanks again'. I give him a kiss on the cheek and start to walk away. 'Wait! Can I see you again? Like tomorrow or something?' Tal asks. 'You have my number, call me', he gets as an answer, while I start walking back to my parents. I feel a strong arm stop me.
'Nope, this time we are going to make an appointment', Tal says with a smile. A very cute smile, if you ask me. 'Tomorrow morning at 10 at the beach, okay?' I nod and smile one last time before walking back. I can feel his eyes on my back. 'Julia.' I turn around: 'What?' 'I like your outfit', he says and chuckles. I roll my eyes and turn around, realizing I'm smiling the entire way back to the cabin.
At breakfast I don't eat much, I keep thinking about Tal and whether he would be thinking about me. Probably not I tell myself, he most likely has a girlfriend. I mean, how could he not, he's gorgeous. Wait, did I really think that? Oh no, this is not good. I should stop myself right here. He is not available, I tell myself. On the other side, a voice in my head tells me he did ask for my number and wanted to see me again. 'So?' the other voice asks. There is literally a conversation going on in my head between two voices. I'm going to be pronounced crazy one day.
