'Bye! See you Monday!' I say to Adi and give him an awkward hug. It's Meredith's turn to say goodbye to Adi next. I roll my eyes. This is going to take a while.
Tal sees it and laughs before he wraps his arms around me for a hug as well. I hold him tightly, I don't want to let go of him. He smells so good. Unfortunately, we let go after a few seconds because Adi and Meredith have separated. We wave goodbye and Meredith and I head back to my house so she can pick up her stuff and we can talk a little more.
'I'm sooo excited for summer break! It's in less than three weeks and Adi and I already made plans. Look, in a few of them, you are involved as well. We didn't think of the plans you are involved in yet but Adi said we are going to picnic and he also told me he planned a really nice date for us! How adorable!' Meredith squeals. 'Yeah, sounds like a lot of fun!' I say, pretending that her plans are awesome and realistic. 'But, see you Monday at school, Jul!' She gives me a hug and leaves quickly, since she has to take the bus.
The next morning I wake up late. I put on some fluffy socks to keep my feet warm. I love fluffy socks. I also love being barefoot, though. In the house you will either find me with fluffy socks, or barefoot.
I go downstairs to sit on the couch and grab my book. I've read a few pages before I hear my mom calling me. 'Julia?' 'What? I'm reading.' I'm annoyed. She knows not to interrupt me when reading, right? 'Come upstairs, Jul!' I sigh and put my book down, after I've placed my bookmark on the page where I left, to walk up the stairs.
'So, you are telling me you and dad are leaving me alone in this house for a week?' I ask my mom. 'Well, you are not alone, you have got Mouse', she says. 'Mouse is a cat, if there would be a fire, he can't save me', is my reply. 'But you are not going to be that alone, didn't I tell yet? We are going to the mountains with Tal's parents, remember? You have to remember, otherwise you haven't listened at all. So they decided Adi will stay at Meredith's place, since her parents are at a work congress and Tal will stay here', my mom says.
'What? You just invite him without informing me? And I can live by myself for a week. Can't any of my cousins come?' I blurt out. 'No, it was too last-minute. And you are underage so you will not stay alone for a week', is my mom's reply.
I can't really find words to say. 'When were you leaving again?' I ask. 'The first Tuesday of the vacation.' I just shake my head and head back downstairs. I grab a cookie and text Tal. He replies nearly immediately. 'Whats up?' 'Can I come over to your house? Like now?' I ask. He is typing for a long time. 'Meet me in the park in 10 min' he then says. 'Fine by me, see ya', is the last text I send him.
I lay down on the couch. The park is in the middle between our houses, I can walk there in 2 minutes. I have to fix my hair and outfit, I'm still in my pajamas.I decide to take a cookie with me. I need energy to walk up the stairs.
I put my hair up into a bun and change my sweatpants into jeans with my new shirt I bought with Mer. I put on some socks and sneakers and after that I head to the kitchen to grab another cookie. They shouldn't be that good if you're not supposed to eat them. 'Bye mom, I'm going outside!' I yell up the stairs and I walk out of the door before she can reply.
Munching on my cookie, I slowly walk to the park. I sit down on an empty park bench. The bench is partly in the sun and I sit on the edge to soak up some sun. It is a bit colder than it was yesterday, but still nice. I am just watching the people live their lives and I wonder what their lives would be like. Sometimes I do that. Just look at people and thinking of a story why they are looking that sad or mad or something.
I see an unhappy woman. I think of a story to go with her. She is wearing fancy clothes, but her hair is a mess. She has freshly manicured nails and the newest iPhone. She definitely has got a good job that pays well. In my head, she's a lawyer and she's been up all night, this explains the bags under her eyes and her messy hair, to try and come up with good arguments for her client. She walks away and I don't see any other interesting people in the park to think about.
I should have brought my book, I say to myself. Then I realize I was meeting with Tal and it would be rude. I even asked him to meet up and I literally nearly forgot why I was here. Then, because I was thinking about Tal, I start thinking about what he had asked yesterday. I feel my cheeks slightly heat up. He asked me out on a date! That means he likes me! Or not, and he was just trying to be nice. I don't know. I shouldn't think to much and just let things happen. But I know all too well that I can't. I see Tal walking up to me and I stand up from the park bench to give him a hug.
