ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 4
"ᴀ ʜᴏᴍᴇ, ᴀ ᴄʀᴏꜱꜱ, ᴀ ꜰᴀᴍɪʟʏ"The walk to Jungkook's apartment was quiet. Part of it was because nobody could see the angel walking beside the young man, talking to him would only make them suspicious. Jimin spent most of the walk dodging the other people on the sidewalk. If the situation wasn't as frightening as it was Jungkook would've laughed at the elder's attempts to keep a straight face while running around the masses trying not to bump into anyone. Jungkook was almost certain his powers would allow him to dodge them way more effectively, based on the fact that angels and demons tended to appear and disappear in the blink of an eye. He had no idea why Jimin went through the effort to stay physical and stick by his side. Maybe it was to make him feel more at ease, either way, he was grateful. It gave Jungkook some time to get used to Jimin being there, following him around. That and it gave him a chance to get a better look at the angel since his fear of them had always held him back and made him look away.
Now he could see every single feather place on the angel's wings. He could see the shine of his aureole on his neck Jungkook wondered what it would feel like. The wings would probably feel like any birds' wings under his fingertips, but the halo intrigued him. Would it be like an actual wedding ring to God, like he had so often wondered? Would it be cold but well-kempt or would it be hot like scorching metal because it was so much more? For a second he wondered if it was even considered an aureole. He wouldn't have thought anything of it if not all angels he had ever seen had had the same ring adorning their neck. He probably wouldn't find out the truth behind any of his questions anytime soon, but it was fun to wonder.
As time passed they got closer to Jungkook's apartment. He didn't live too far away from the campus, but far enough to have to take quite a walk. He often took the tube just for convenience's sake. That and he was scared to get mugged again. His dorm room wasn't in the best of neighbourhoods, that's why it was affordable for the two students, but that also meant that they had to watch out at night and preferably not go out on their own. Luckily it was now in broad daylight instead of the break of dawn. Most people were working now anyway, so he was quite safe.
Eventually, they ended up in front of Jungkook's apartment building. The male took the keys out of his backpack and opened the main door with a shaky hand. He stepped inside and held the door open for Jimin. The latter quickly thanked the younger, walking in himself.
"You don't have to keep doors open for me, I can just appear anywhere I like, you know, just so it doesn't seem like you're inviting your imaginary friends in. Your neighbour already seems quite curious about it," Jimin said nodding to the building across the street.
Jungkook looked at where the angel was gesturing. His eyes fell on an old man peeking through the curtains. He quickly let go of the piece of fabric and walked away as soon as the younger spotted him. Jungkook just closed the door and leaned against it.
"That's Mr Rang. He's a defector, but he's quite nice. He helped me after I got locked out one day, he let me into his house and gave me coffee until Namjoon came back to open the door for me," Jungkook explained, smiling fondly at the memory.
It was a shame there was such a stigma against his group of people. He was a kind and caring man, smart as well, it was just that his degree wasn't worth anything in South Korea nor was his endless repertoire of farming. He fled to find freedom and get away from the poverty, but even now he was stuck in a small one-room apartment with hardly enough money from his part-time job at a supermarket to support himself. Jungkook often hoped for a better life for him. The elder always watched out for him, so he should do the same.
It only then the true weight of the man always watching him come home struck Jungkook. He knew it was only to make sure the younger got home safely and could enter his apartment, but it still brought a hurdle to the table. Every day when he would come home he would have to not act suspicious now that Jimin was here because Mr Rang was watching him. Jungkook wondered just how many people were watching him every day without him even caring about it or noticing it.
