"ɪɴʜᴀʟɪɴɢ ꜱᴍᴏᴋᴇ"The two men looked at each other with fear in their eyes, Jungkook's gaze clinging to Yoongi for some kind of salvation, some kind of plan. The elder just stared back at him, assessing the situation, his resolve slowly breaking. Jungkook didn't like the desperation in his eyes, the look as if he would do anything to keep him safe. It was the same look he saw in Jimin from time to time.
Footsteps sounded from behind the door. Yoongi simply pulled the younger closer, speaking in a hushed tone. "We have to go," he whispered to the other. "Get ready."
As Yoongi curled his fingers around the younger's waist, pulling him closer, Jungkook knew what he was trying to do. The world around him turned blurry as his the ground disappeared from under his feet. Jungkook closed his eyes, trying his best not to pass out from the immense pressure and quick movements. He wasn't sure what was happening when he felt another arm pull at him and then rough wood under his cheek and hands.
Blood was dripping from his scratch marks, an ugly burn spreading over one side of his face, his arms and his knees. The world was still spinning when his gaze focused on two black eyes. The demon was staring straight at him, a smirk plastered on his face. Jungkook could only gather whatever strength was left in his broken body and mind and pull himself away.
"You leave him alone you bastard!" Yoongi's voice rang through the air. Jungkook followed the sound, finding the elder just in time to see him running into the demon.
Light and dark were sprinting around the room with movements that were too fast for his comprehension. They appeared and disappeared, like violent smoke floating around. The room was getting more and more demolished as they went along, pieces of wood and rubble flying through the air, dust floating around them.
Jungkook backed up, trying to find a safer spot in the chaos around him. He couldn't help Yoongi right now no matter how much he wanted to. It was an urge he had to fight, seeing the light getting dimmer and dimmer as the fight went on. Those creatures had abilities above and beyond what he was capable of and it made Jungkook's heart beat out of his chest.
As soon as the younger had pushed his shaky form off the floor, he felt two arms wrap around him from behind. He hit them with all the strength he had left, but it was to no avail. The demon was stronger than he would ever be, strong enough to carry him away even when he was struggling and thrashing around, strong enough to break his back like a toothpick if he wanted to.
"Yoongi!" Jungkook yelled, continuing his useless struggling. He knew the elder couldn't help him. There were too many demons around him, too many creatures for Yoongi to fight in order to get to him. He was doomed.
One demon fell to the floor, his body almost lifeless. The darkness in the room seemed to grow stronger as he did. Jungkook fell to his knees when the demon didn't hold him up any longer. His legs felt like pudding, his anxiety disabling him. He couldn't struggle anymore, he couldn't even breathe. He couldn't run, he couldn't move. The arms were no longer around his body, they were around his soul.
Through his small gasps of air, he took in one deep breath. As he did he could feel the smoke burn into his lungs. Something snapped. All Jungkook could see was his past. All the times he had been hurt. All the times he had carried bruises, both of his own doing and of others. All the times a person had yelled at him, teachers, parents, psychiatrists, friends, they were all there. All the nights he had cried himself to sleep. They all combined into something toxic, spreading through his brain like radiation.
Those which hurt the most came after. It wasn't just his childhood, it was his entire life. Taehyung's cold eyes stared back at him, the blood dripping down his face redder and more vibrant in his memory. He saw Jimin slowly fading away in his arms with a bullet wound his chest. His lips were pale and his eyes were lifeless. He saw the bruised faces he had left the morning before and the tears of his mother when he had left her. It spread and spread like an all-consuming disease.
All he felt was pain, both emotionally and physically. His thoughts turned dark and so did his soul, only this time he did not see even a pinprick of light guiding him out. He was all alone inside his own mind with demon clawing at his strength, slowly winning the fight.
All he could do was cry out in pain and uselessly twitch his body. He hit multiple pieces of furniture and rubble but he didn't even notice. The agony taking over his body was way worse than any wounds he could give himself, any wounds that he had given himself.
"Jungkook!" Yoongi yelled. His voice sounded distant, the blood rushing through his eyes drowning him out almost as if he was underwater. All that left the younger's lips were strangled cries. Tears leaked out of his eyes of both sadness and pain.
As he was about to fall, the darkness around him fully consuming him whole, something shifted. It was as if a puzzle piece had fallen into place. The picture finally clicked. He had found his source of light and it was stronger than any of them knew, including himself. The darkness clawing at his soul did not get pushed away, he got shattered.
Jungkook's mind was no longer filled with his own screams but only with the deafening scream of the demons attacking them. They still got drowned out by the excessive beating of his heart and the short gasps of air he was taking. He opened his eyes just in time to see the dark shapes fade into nothingness. Even as his vision blurred and darkened around the edges, he could see the room get lighter.
Fully hyperventilating, he fell down. Coughs and sobs left his body, a mixture of tears and blood streaming down his face. The world around him was still spinning. He wouldn't know what was up or down if he hadn't felt the rough wood press into his back. He felt the same fingers pressed tightly into his wrist, mixed in with all the senses overloading him. Jungkook had no idea what was going on around him or why Yoongi was pinning him down to the ground.
"Look at me! Open your eyes!" the elder commanded in an almost dark tone. Jungkook did as he was told looking the elder right in his eyes. His gaze softened as did his grip. It took him a few more moments before his breathing started to soften as well. Jungkook was still shaking in his arms.
"W-What happened?" the human managed to cough out. He was hardly able to sit up. It was like his body felt alien to him and wouldn't listen to his own commands. He was getting distant again, dissociating.
"They tried to possess you," Yoongi spoke in a soft tone. It was almost as if he was scared to admit it, scared to relive it as he uttered those words.
"But you kept him away?" Jungkook asked. Yoongi just shook his head slightly, staring down at the floor.
"I didn't do anything," he spoke. Jungkook tried his best to take in the words his hyung said to him but everything was still hard to comprehend with the world going in and out of focus.
"Then how..." he asked in a daze. Yoongi just looked at the younger with a look that was almost pitiful.
"What am I?" Jungkook asked, his throat blocking up again. His breathing was rough and filled with held-back sobs. He felt on the edge of a breakdown, the adrenaline still in his bloodstream and his mind overreactive.
"I don't know," Yoongi answered, under his breath. It was the first time Jungkook could hear the sincerity in it. That only scared him even more. He took in a shaky breath, not sure what he should say if he were to speak again. He didn't get the chance to.
Before he even finished his thought, another shape appeared in the room. His voice was one that Jungkook had heard too many times, yet with an unfamiliar undertone. "Hello, Jungkookie," the demon spoke.
