ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 33
"ꜱᴏʀʀʏ ᴛᴏ ɢᴇᴛ ꜱᴇɴᴛɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟ ᴛᴏɴɪɢʜᴛ"
The lights flashed outside his bedroom window, casting shadows onto his face. He could almost pretend the dark circles under his eyes were just a trick of the light but the way his eyes pricked at the brightness gave it all away. He breathed out slowly, closing his eyes just for a second. His body was tired but his mind was still running wild.
Jungkook couldn't seem to forget about anything his mother had told him. His mind was running wild with all the questions he could've asked her, all the ways he could've forced her to answer them. Now it only ended with one small confirmation and an unspoken tension. In the end, she just left him after arguing with him once more. She knew she couldn't convince him to stay away from Jimin and be mindful of her words. He would just have to play the part and give the angels what they wanted.
Jungkook wondered whether it had all been worth it. He was never close to his mother but it seemed that this argument had broken something between them. It was logical that his mother only wanted to protect him and would do anything to keep him safe, but she seemed to forget the darkest demons weren't the ones with eyes as black as ink, but the ink he spilt on endless sheet music and journal entries. He had put their relationship under pressure to find answers but in the end, he got none, except for one small puzzle piece. All he had found out was that his mother knew Yoongi, or at least recognised his name. It was yet another thing that his mother knew more about than him.
He once again moved around under the seemingly too warm sheets. He had been twisting and turning for many hours now, the numbers on his alarm clock looking at him almost tauntingly. The human tried to close his eyes and let his mind wander off. With every thunder strike, he got shaken out of his dream-like trance again, bringing him back to the reality around him. A snarl found its way onto his face and he almost felt like crying. He had lectures in the morning and he already knew it was a lost cause. He wasn't going to fall asleep anytime soon. With that thought he pushed his tired body off the bed and walked towards the kitchen, hoping a glass of water would help clear his mind.
The floor felt cold under his bare feet. He could feel the floor crack as he walked, trying his best not to wake up Namjoon and Jin. As another flash of lightning lit up the apartment, Jungkook could make out the shape standing in front of the living room window. At first, he jumped, but the wings and comforting aura let him know it was Jimin. He calmed down, grabbed his glass of water and stood next to him.
"What are you looking at?" Jungkook asked, watching the drops of rain violently attack the window.
"Just the storm," Jimin answered with a frown. "Couldn't sleep?" he questioned. Jungkook simply shook his head, taking a sip of his water, feeling the cold liquid run down his throat.
"Too much on my mind," he said.
"You talked to Taehyung earlier," Jimin observed. Jungkook just blinked at him. He didn't know the angel had been listening. Earlier that night he had figured that talking to Taehyung would help, as it always did. So he had chatted with him on his phone for hours until he had no choice but to go. Now he was left alone in the dark, with only his thoughts to keep him company. "You trust him with everything, don't you?" the angel asked. Jungkook was sure the slightly jealous tone was just his imagination.
"Not everything," Jungkook slowly said. "He still doesn't know I can see you guys."
Jimin simply nodded, staring out the window again. Jungkook could see the worried expression on his face as it was lit up by the street lantern. "You still don't trust him, do you?" it was more an observation than a question. Jimin just smirked, blowing air out his nose.
