"ᴀ ᴠɪꜱɪᴏɴ (ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ꜱᴛᴀʀᴛ ᴀɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ᴇɴᴅ)"Sounds were obtuse, his mind not quite there yet. The sound of the bell slowed down. As he opened his eyes, his eyelids only seemed to stick together. With more force, his gaze fell on a shape only a few meters away from him. His hair seemed to defy gravity. Only then did Jungkook wake up enough to realise his head was resting on the table.
"Hello?" the shadow asked carefully.
The young human shot up, realising quickly that he had fallen asleep at his work. He also realised he was no longer alone with Jimin. It only took him another second to remember that he had called Taehyung to pick up his wallet. His face shifted to a slight crimson colour from embarrassment under the elder's judging gaze.
"I-I'm sorry," Jungkook said before standing up and bowing respectfully, only then feeling how weak his legs still were from his slumber.
"It's alright," the man said with a slight chuckle. "I'm used to a lot more during exam season. Had a rough day?"
"Kind of, but that's beside the point," Jungkook said, scratching his neck while avoiding any eye contact. The stranger opened his mouth to protest but was promptly cut off by the younger. "You must be Kim Taehyung," Jungkook quickly added.
"Yeah, that's me," Taehyung said with a small, boxy smile.
He looked slightly different from his ID card, which wouldn't be weird considering the picture was probably taken a couple years ago. His hair was shorter than on the photograph and his face looked slimmer, more defined. The latter was probably due to weight loss and growth.
It was funny how much a person could change in just a small period of time. Even comparing Taehyung from a few years ago to the Taehyung in front of him was like looking into a distorting mirror. He was still the same person, the comparisons were definitely there, but he was not quite recognisable. Even the look in his eyes was different, even though Jungkook couldn't pinpoint as to why.
"Here's your wallet," Jungkook said, handing the elder back his lost possession.
"Thank you!" Taehyung said, quickly taking it and opening it before deciding it was definitely his. He promptly shoved it in his back pocket. "I'm sorry I made you stay up late, it seems like you could really use your sleep," he added.
"It's alright. It's my job to take care of this shop and its costumers," Jungkook explained, trying to sound as awake as he possibly could. There was still a slight drowsy tone to his voice, Taehyung seemed to notice as well.
"Yeah, and it's my job as a decent human being to take care of my own stuff and let tired people get home on time," he said jokingly. Jungkook just smiled back.
"It's really nothing," the younger reiterated.
"It really is though, you're too nice to admit it," Taehyung said. His words left Jungkook speechless. He wasn't sure whether he should once again defy him or whether that would be considered rude. Before he could even answer, the elder spoke again.
"You seem familiar, are you still in school?" Taehyung suddenly asked. Jungkook simply nodded.
"I'm studying at Seoul National University," he explained. Taehyung's eyes lit up.
"That's where I know you from! I'm going to the same university!" the blonde-haired man concluded. "What are you studying?" he asked.
"Music," Jungkook replied.
He had always loved singing, ever since he was a kid, which was funny considering his mother had absolutely no connection to music. Even though he was shy and didn't like talking, everything seemed the fall away when he sang. He would lose himself in the words and melody and they would guide him to a better place. Even though singing in front of other people was still a struggle, he truly loved his study. The only thing he didn't like was the performance aspect.
