Chapter Nine

Viveca's eyes went all glossy. She forged the water in her hand into a large sphere that floated and rotated in the air. The sphere's movements were almost hypnotizing. It was like it was trying to put me into some sort of trance to catch me off guard for a moment or two.

Suddenly, an image appeared in the water's surface. It was of a girl with hair that was stick straight yellow. The color was almost unnatural. Her hair looked like a million volts of lightning had come together to create her lengthy hair. She wore a purple winter coat trimmed with fur over dark purple pants. Her shoes were black combat boots, similar to the ones worn by Celina. She had a bright yellow shirt on under her jacket. Her shirt was only visible because her jacket had been left unzipped.

The girl's eyes, which were an unnatural shade of violet, scanned the area. A smile appeared on her lips not long after. She clicked her fingers on both hands and created a thin stream of lightning between her hands. The girl laughed under her breath at the lightning, satisfied with the way it was looking. "Sweet," the girl whispered. "This is awesome." Her electric yellow hair flailed around her as she created a gust of wind by moving one hand. She smiled to herself once again as the wind cooled her face.

The image in the water swirled around for a few seconds before disappearing entirely, which left the water sphere empty of anything other than water. Viveca seemed to return to reality seconds later, as if staring at the water had sent her off to another world. "Well," she began, "I'm glad that we were able to see that vision."

"If you ask me, that's going to be the next girl for us to pick up," Celina declared. "Her name is Trina. At least that's what my research has told me. She lives in Greenland. We'll be picking her up as quickly as possible so that we can catch another group member or two by the end of the day."

"There are five of us. What if we split up for a while since there are so many of us? Celina can create a vortex for us into another country and leave us to do whatever we need to so that we can find the other members of our team," Corinne suggested. "I can go with Ari and Viv here to find somebody else while the two of you go to find Trina."

Surprisingly, Celina had no objections. "Alright," she said with a nod. She cut two rifts in the air with her dagger. "You'll be going to an African country to find another member of our team. We'll go and find Trina. After you find her, travel back through the rift and travel back here so that we can meet you up. We can then split up a few times more to find the other people. There are fifteen in total, so things are going to take a while."

Corinne shot us a wave and her goofy little grin before walking through the rift that she was supposed to go through. Arianna and Viveca followed her a few feet behind. Arianna's ponytail disappeared through the vortex after she left, which meant that only Celina and I remained in Viveca's bedroom.

Celina took my hand and walked through the other rift. I closed my eyes against the glare before exiting. Soon, I found myself somewhere completely different.

The place was a rather large street that ran up and down for a few yards. Everything was pretty much empty. No people were in sight and nobody could be heard. My guess was that everybody else was out getting food or shopping or something else along those lines. I heard a small giggle. Celina appeared to have heard it too. She took my hand and led me over to the source of the laughter.

It was the girl that Viveca had seen in her vision. This Trina character. She was creating bolts of lightning between her hands with a grin. She seemed so entranced by the whole situation that she didn't even see us staring at her.

Celina coughed gently to alert the girl of their presence. I did the same, hoping that one of the sounds would make her look up.

The coughs did catch her attention. She let go of the lightning and watched it disappear before staring up at us. Trina locked eyes with me. Her violet irises were swirling with worry. They looked like a turbulent sea of indigo and other shades of purple. "Who are you?" she asked defensively, sinking into a stance to defend herself if needed. I could tell that energy was ready to burst free from her fingertips if she felt even slightly threatened.

"My name is Celina Nilsson, and this is Renee Asami. We're here to talk to you about magic," Celina said. "And before you ask, no, we are not part of Hakate's organization or the Trelosa."

Trina froze on the spot. "You know about the Trelosa?" she asked fearfully. "I thought I was the only one having dreams about that stuff..."

"We haven't been having dreams about this stuff. We've been experiencing it firsthand," Celina said. "May I assume that you have the power of storms and other weather related elements?"

Trina nodded. "Yeah. Side effects include having dreams of evil during turbulent storms. That's what I've been dealing with lately," Trina told us. "Well, now that I know who you are, I'm just going to stick around with you. I want to be able to punch something and electrocute a guy. People in this town think I'm crazy for wanting to do that..."

"You'll be doing that a lot," Celina said. She led Trina back to the rift that they had created earlier and stepped through.

When we arrived back in Viveca's room, Celina smiled. "We probably have enough time to go and snag another teammate. Does that sound good?"

I nodded. "Let's do it!"
