Chapter Sixteen

After we explained the entire mess to Melody, she nodded gently. She looked up to meet my eyes not long after. "So that's what you want my help with?" she asked.

I nodded. "Yes," I replied. "I really do hope the you decide to join us. I think that the group would be incomplete without you on the team." I did my best not to say something about how she was pretty, but it was rather difficult. Melody just overflowed with beauty in my opinion, but then again, most girls did to me.

"I suppose that there isn't much harm in joining a good cause," Melody said with a small smile. "I'm in."

I kept myself from bouncing up and down. I looked to Celina to distract myself, a giddy grin on my lips. "Okay! You can open up the rift! Let's get to it!" I exclaimed.

Celina rose from her seat and gestured for the rest of us to follow her, which we did without her having to say anything. She began to lead us back to the rift that she had made for us to come into the area, though it required quite a bit of walking first. I supposed that was the consequence of opening the rift so far away from our destination. However, I didn't really mind. I ended up just shrugging it off and enjoying the walk.

Everybody in our group seemed to be so nice, even if they tried to hide it (and by that I'm talking about Celina). I was already really liking them all. We hadn't known each other all that long, but I still enjoyed being with them. Saving the world would actually be pretty fun if I was by the side of all of these sweet girls.

I giggled at the thought. Melody looked at me with a questioning look, so I turned to face her and shrugged lightly. She seemed to accept that as a response and focused once again on walking forward. I was happy that none of the others had noticed. They probably would have found me to be crazy or something along those lines.

We came to the rift not long after. Celina held up her hand to keep us from walking through it. She frowned to herself and examined it for a few seconds.

"What's going on?" I asked, seeming to sense that something was wrong. I couldn't put a finger on it, but I could still tell that something was amiss.

"Somebody interfered with our rift," she muttered under her breath. She frowned and turned to us once again. "You guys need to stay here. I'm going to go inside and see what's wrong with it."

Before one of us could object, she stepped through the rift. I glanced at Melody and then at the rift. She'd be safe with the other two girls. If I left to go and chase after Celina, then everything would be fine.

Against my better judgement, I dashed through the rift. I was blinded for a few seconds before I came out of the other side, glancing around at my new surroundings.

It was the same headquarters building that we had seen before we left, but there was something else about it that I found to be rather odd.

I soon realized what it was. It was a Trelosa soldier standing right in the middle of the room.

I stifled a gasp. I had seen movies like this before. The element of surprise was the most important thing ever when it came to catching somebody sneaking into your house.

However, I didn't get the chance to formulate a plan. Instead, I watched Celina walk up to the Trelosa soldier. She didn't seem at all bothered by their presence, which I admit surprised me. I would have thought that she would have been at least a little bit shocked at seeing a soldier in our headquarters, a place that only we knew existed.

The Trelosa ripped off their mask. A girl was underneath. She looked a lot like Celina, but different at the same time. Their facial structure was rather similar, and as were their heights, but the Trelosa soldier's hair was long and orange in color. It faded out to a light blonde at the top.

"Hey, Crenia," Celina said simply. "How are things going?"

"Rather well," the girl, Crenia, apparently, replied. "I haven't gotten all that much insight as to what Hakate is planning, but I know that something big is coming."

"I figured that much," Celina mumbled unhappily. "But I guess that we're just going to have to wait for information when we get it. What do you know about a Trelosa solider named Finley? I texted you about him earlier."

"He's one of the higher ups. Apparently, the boss loves him. I don't know why, I'm afraid. However, even if he's one of the higher ups, he still doesn't try very hard on missions. In fact, many people that are lower on the power level call him the ultimate slacker. He never does anything unless Hakate asks him to. I don't really know why, sadly," Crenia sighed. "As soon as I can figure something else out, I'll tell you. In fact, I might just go over right now and talk to him about what he gets up to when he isn't carrying out missions for Hakate."

"That sounds good," nodded Celina.

Crenia pulled a small dagger out of her boot and cut a rift through the air. On the other side of the rift was the dungeon that we were keeping Finley in. "I'll see you later," she said before stepping through.

The rift closed behind her. I saw Celina was walking towards the rift that I had come through, so I sprinted back through it so that she wouldn't suspect anything.

She stepped through to the other side around twenty seconds after I did. "Alright. I fixed things. Shall we?" she asked.

We all stepped through the rift, but I was still doubtful about if that was the best thing to do.
