Chapter Nineteen

Celina and I descended down the stairs together as if nothing had happened. I guess that we had just made a mental pact to act like we had gone upstairs to talk about something goofy like cat videos on the internet. I got the feeling that Celina would prefer it if things went that way.

The main area of the living room was crowded, to put it nicely. Most of the people in there were familiar. I looked over them all with a small frown. I could barely see anybody in the crowd, let alone anybody that I didn't recognize.

"Alright," declared Grace. "It's time for introductions!"

She spread her arms open wide as a pair of girls came walking to the front of the group. One of them looked halfway pleasant, but the other one just seemed unhappy about everything.

"Here, we have Victoriya Fischer," Grace said grandly. She pointed to the first girl, the one that looked rather sweet. Victoriya shot me a small smile and wave. I could tell that she wanted me to look on her positively.

"Hi," Victoriya smiled. She had light brown hair that was tied up into a curly ponytail. Her eyes were brown. She had an orange choker around her neck. She had an orange shirt with a black jacket on. Her skirt was black as well. She had white tights that covered her legs. On Victoriya's feet were black flat shoes. "Like she said, my name is Victoriya. You can call me Tory, if you want. It's a little simpler to say."

"She's from Germany," Arianna explained. "She certainly looks sweet, don't you think?"

I nodded. "Yeah. She looks really nice," I commented with a small grin. I heard Tory giggle. She held up her hand to cover her mouth as she did so.

"Next, we have a wonderful mage that came straight from Saudi Arabia," Grace declared, her tone grand. I could tell that she was the type that enjoyed going over the top with some things, such as introductions, something clear in this moment.

"You can cut it out with the fancy declarations," the girl said with a sigh. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms as Grace sighed. "I don't have time to listen to you babble on."

Grace rolled her eyes to herself. Clearly, she was poking fun at this new girl. "This is Braylee Essa. Say 'hello', Braylee," she told the girl. Grace nudged Braylee in the shoulder with her arm.

Braylee sighed. "Alright," she said. Her hair was a dark brown color that fell to a short length just above her shoulders. Her eyes were dark. She had a dark red shirt on with a black pair of trousers. She had silver chains hanging from her belt. Wristbands of a deep gray were wrapped around her wrists. A variety of silvery and glittery objects hung from her ears. Black combat boots were on her feet. A few spikes were on the top of her boots. They didn't look sharp enough to hurt anyone, however, which I was thankful for.

"Boom! We have twelve Pure mages all gathered up together! Cool, right?!" exclaimed Trina. A wide grin had formed on her face.

"We aren't out of the water just yet," Celina told her. "There are a few others that we need to gather up."

"What?" asked Braylee. "I was hoping that you all had gathered everybody else up before you came to get me."

"I'm afraid not," Celina said, shaking her head. "You see, there are three special mages. I believe I mentioned this one time before."

"Could you elaborate a little more?" questioned Tory.

"Yeah," Celina nodded. "There are fifteen Pure Mages in existence. You see, twelve of them are normal. Each one of these twelve holds a place in the zodiac symbols of the year. These twelve are relatively regular on the scheme of mages, which is an odd phrase, to put it nicely."

"What about the other three?" asked Viveca.

"The final three are all mages that can open the gateway to another realm. The gate needs three higher mages to open it. The realm is one that nobody knows much about. Apparently, it's the last resort for when people are in a large amount of danger. When people are sure that the world is on the brink of death, or at the very least something close, they call upon their Pure mages to go into that world and find the source of power that will save them from the calamity they face at that moment," Celina said.

"I see..." nodded Tory. "I heard about Pure mages and such before now from my parents, but never before did anybody tell me that this sort of thing was possible."

"I guess that we're going to need to get those final three if we're going to get this ultimate power on our side and stop Hakate and the army of Trelosa soldiers behind them," declared Corinne. "How exactly are we going to get those other three before Hakate finds out and gets in our way?"

"We can figure out something," Trina said firmly. "I believe that we can pull it off."

"I was thinking that we would all split up into groups of four based on where our magic comes from," Celina said. "The power tiers, to say the least."

"Who goes where, then?" I questioned of her.

"You'll be with Corinne, Arianna, and Viveca. Next, we have Braylee, Kidani, Celina, and Trina. Finally, the last group is Melody, Tory, myself, and Grace," Celina explained. "Each one is going to go after their own key."

"Own key?" asked Corinne.

"Each power tier has a key, to say the least," Celina went on. "The first group will go to China. The next group goes to Greece. The last group is heading to France."

"Let's get ready for this, then. I don't want to spend all day messing around with this crap," Braylee declared. "I have better things to do than run around and meet other girls."

"Moody, isn't she?" Arianna asked, whispering into my ear.

"I'm glad we're not with her," I said back. I could already tell that Braylee and I weren't going to get along all that well...
