I have to admit that I was a tad bit hesitant at first. From what I knew, Elina was the practical type, and she wasn't the sort to believe anything that you tell her. It took evidence to get her on your side, and I didn't really know how I was supposed to prove that all of this was real. Elina was a bit of a pessimist, so if she saw some of us use our magic, she would say something about how it was likely something like special effects.
"Well?" asked Elina, raising an eyebrow as she stared my way. "Do you have something to say on the subject?"
I took in a small breath and let out, taking as long as I possibly could. I didn't want to talk to her, which I was sure that she was able to see with how much I was holding this off. "Basically, you're going to have to come with us for a little while since we have a little job to take care of before life can go on in the way that we're used to," I told her, choosing my words carefully so as not to set her off into a tangent of some sort.
"Go on," Elina said, gesturing for me to continue whatever it was I was planning to say. I guess that I was going a little bit too slow for Elina's liking.
"You have magical powers like the four of us and we need you to use your powers to help us save the world," I said, letting it all out in one breath. I was sick of holding it off, even if I had no idea how she was going to react when she finally heard the truth. There couldn't be too much harm in just telling her everything, right?
Right?
Elina stared at me for a moment, as if dumbfounded. "What?" she asked in confusion.
"It's the truth," I sighed. "I know that it sounds unbelievable, but-"
"You're going to have to repeat it for me," Elina said. "I didn't quite get what you said since you were going so quickly."
"Alright," I murmured. I had been hoping that I only had to mention it the one time, but it appeared that wasn't going to be the case. "You have magical powers like the rest of us here do. We're going to need your help to save the world from a threat that wants to use magic in a way that might lead to the end of humanity."
"Okay. Yeah. That makes sense," Elina said with a roll of her eyes. "Here I was thinking that you were going to say something to me that actually made sense."
"It's the truth," I told her. "You have to believe us on this."
"If you can provide a little bit of proof, maybe I'll accept what you have to say," Elina said, crossing her arms over her chest. "Without anything of that sort, I'm afraid that I'll have to deny it as nothing more than some ridiculous prank."
I sighed and turned to Corinne, Arianna, and Viveca. "I'm going to need your help here," I said, this time addressing them in a language that they could understand. "Could you demonstrate your magic for her?"
Corinne nodded and let a grin appear on her lips. She snapped her fingers and created a few sparks between her fingers. Shortly after, a small flame sparked to life, burning gently in the air. She held her other hand around the flare to keep it from growing too large. The fire lit up her face, which left her looking happier and more excited than I had ever seen her before. I have to admit that it was a nice sight, nearly hypnotic in how great it appeared.
Elina stared for a moment as well, a frown on her lips. She watched as Corinne extinguished the flame, a smile still wide on her face. The blonde turned to Viveca next and nudged her gently.
Viveca seemed to understand that she was supposed to show what her magic had to offer next. She took in a small breath before swirling her wrists in a circular motion. Water appeared from thin air, circling her fingers gently. Unlike Corinne, who had a look of pyromania in her eyes, Viveca appeared to be rather relaxed as she watched the blue molecules move as gently as possible.
Viveca allowed the water to disperse into thin air not long after, closing her eyes in a relaxed fashion as she did so. "There we are," she whispered under her breath before allowing her eyelids to flutter open slowly.
Arianna went to assist a nearby flower in growth next. She held out her right hand and focused on the flower, which was rather small and pathetic compared to most others I had seen. It was rather droopy as well, which made it look almost sad.
Arianna wasn't having any of this, sending as much of her energy as possible in the direction of the budding bloom as she tried to help it grow to a size as large as possible. A few seconds of concentration had the flower pretty much tripling in size, which I have to admit was rather impressive, even for me, someone who knew what Arianna was capable of when it came down to her and her manipulation of the forces of nature.
Once she was done, we all stared at the flower for a few seconds longer before turning back to the subject at hand. Elina slowly faced us, her eyes wide and her mouth agape. She looked like she was on the verge of passing out, which I doubt was a good thing. I gulped nervously, unsure of what she was going to do next. Elina was relatively unpredictable, so I was a tad bit worried.
Elina let out a sigh a few seconds later. "Alright," she said. "I believe you. I'd like to hear the full story before we go on, however, if that would be okay."
