I had a significant amount of trouble trying to get to sleep after seeing Finley. After hearing him say that I was his sister, I was shocked out of my mind. I mean, anybody would be. I found it more than hard to believe. For hours, I tossed and turned and tried to think of how that could be possible. My mother and I had been alone as long as I could remember. We had never been with my father. Ever. I didn't even know his name. I never pressed the matter so as not to upset Mom, as I knew well that she hated talking about him.
I didn't know anything about my father. Knowing something about the brother I had no idea I had was even further away from being possible.
Yet somehow, I found it to be possible. We had the same hair for one. His eyes were around the same shape as mine as well. I hated to admit it, but this was possible as far as I could see. How could that be, though? I didn't have a brother. I had never had a brother. Everybody that I knew had the idea that I was an only child planted firmly in their head.
When the first rays of the sun streamed in through the window, I rubbed my sleepless eyes. I was exhausted after staying up for so long. I prayed internally that I got the chance to rest again later on. I didn't want to face the day in this tired condition. I wouldn't be able to do much of anything with the way that I was at that moment.
I got up out of bed and put on my shoes. I let out a small sigh and walked from the room, praying that one of the others was awake. I checked every room that had people sleeping in it. Nobody was up yet. Everybody was out like a light. I frowned before trudging back to my room. I couldn't eat yet since there wasn't any food here and I didn't know my way around this town. I would need Celina to show me to the nearest restaurant, and since she wasn't awake and I didn't want to wake her, I was left to go back to my room.
I curled up underneath the covers, thoughts of Finley stirring in my mind. This was all wild. Before this whole mess had started, I had thought of myself as a normal girl. Nothing exciting ever happened. However, since I met Celina after being attacked by that Trelosa soldier, I was starting to realize that there was so much more to life than what Mom had shown me. Then again, I didn't really blame her for not telling me about everything. After all, I was all that she had life. With Dad gone, then I was the only person that she could lean on should the need arise. She was a lonely woman, which meant that things relied on me even more so than it would have if she had other friends.
I glanced around the room, knowing that I wouldn't be able to sleep. I hadn't been able to sleep since seeing Finley. That meant that there was no way I'd be getting back to sleep anytime soon. It was best if I just gave in now and accepted my fate, that I'd be exhausted until I could talk out everything with one of the other girls in the group. It would be a while, but all I could do was wait at that point.
My hands wrapped around my shoulders. It was a bit cold in the house, which I suppose made sense. It was February. February was meant to be rather chilly in the grand scheme of things. I guess that Celina's home wasn't an exception to this rule.
My eyes slowly drooped shut. Maybe if I emptied my mind, I'd be able to convince my mind to let me sleep... The very least I could do was hope that it worked that way. There was no real guarantee, but I could try, you know? There was no harm in attempting to sleep.
My mind was almost completely blank when I heard a few sounds coming from nearby. I let out a small gasp and sat up, wanting to know what it was. For all I knew, it was Finley coming back to talk to me after what had happened last night. Then again, he didn't know that I had overheard him... I had feigned being asleep, after all, so he had no idea that I had been watching him when he left and listening when he called me his sister.
I realized that it was Celina a few seconds later. She had just awoken and was now climbing out of bed. "Good morning," she told me. "Did you sleep well? You don't look like you did."
"Not really," I admitted. "Something happened last night. I'm sure that you'll be curious about what happened. It might prove to be important in the future."
"What is it?" Celina asked.
"I think I only want to explain it once, so we should probably wait for the others to all wake up," I told her. "Let's go and see if the others are up. I checked a few minutes ago, but any of them could have gotten up since I came back here."
Celina responded with a nod. She slipped into her shoes as she got out of bed. I did the same and went for the door. "If they aren't awake, then we should go on and wake them up. This sounds important," Celina said.
"I guess so," I whispered. "It could be important. I personally think so. It has to do with one of the Trelosa soldiers."
"I see," Celina nodded. She poked her head into a nearby room. "They're all out like lights in here. I'll go in and wake them up. Let's meet in the living room once they're all up."
"Alright," I said before reaching for the doorknob of the room next door.
