I awoke to a sudden thrum of pain in my neck. I jumped, grabbing for my neck. My hand gripped a wrist, and I squeezed tightly
"Easy, Cassi. It's just me, Vergil. I need to change your bandage."
I released him, relaxing as he turned my head to the side to re-bandage the wound.
"How does it look?" I gritted.
"Shh, you should not be talking. It looks fine, almost healed. You are almost finished with the change. You have gained a great amount of strength, and your eyes are starting to go red."
"But, I thought last night you said I looked really pale."
Vergil chuckled, "That was three days ago."
"Oh."
"Now hush. Relax and sleep. You were freezing last night. I had to crawl into bed with you to keep you warm. I think we had five heated blankets on you."
I blushed. He crawled into bed with me? And I missed it?
I relaxed as Vergil wrapped the bandage around my neck. It wasn't the best feeling ever; someone playing with my neck. But it was necessary. And I trusted him.
The door was propped open, and Buttons hurried in, jumping up on the bed next to me. I placed a hand on her back, smiling as she licked me in the face happily.
"Buttons, leave her alone." Vergil said quietly.
"No, no it's okay. I don't mind. I haven't seen her in a while."
Vergil glanced up at me, smiling, "I now see what you were feeling when I was injured in your house."
I nodded, wincing at the pain.
Vergil tapped off the bandage, packing the medical supplies. Buttons curled up next to me, snorting in a breath. I felt tired, warm, and comfortable. The thrumming pain in the side of my neck slowly drained away.
"Okay, Vergil. What did you use?"
He smiled, "A pain reliever. It might make you tired, which will not hurt you much."
I sighed, "When I complete the Change, I am gonna make you pay."
He chuckled, looking away. He sat on the edge of the bed, back turned to me. His shoulders slumped, and he leaned forwards on his knees.
"Listen, Cassi. I have something I have to tell you."
My heart jumped.
"I... The changing from a human to a vampire is a very complicated process. Not many humans are bitten, and even fewer live through it. But, those that do survive it, are males. I have never heard of a female surviving the Change. I don't want to scare you, but I think you deserve to know the truth."
"So... you're saying I am going to die?"
"Well, no but.... I am telling you that there is a slim chance that you will live."
"Oh, thanks Vergil. I feel great now."
"Sorry. But I don't want you to NOT know."
"But haven't I made it farther than the others? My eyes are going red."
Vergil nodded, "Yes, most females die from the blood loss. So consider the fact that you have a slightly larger chance that you will survive."
I nodded and smiled, closing my eyes. I felt Vergil move, feeling his lips press against my forehead. I fought the blush that was creeping up, and the urge to smile.
He stood, his footsteps leading out the door, which he closed. Buttons was still curled up at my side, and I hugged her tightly, "Did you see that Buttons? He kissed me on the forehead."
Now that I knew I was going to be a Vampire, I was glad I had chosen the room in the basement. I smiled, pulling the blanket up further, and dropping off into sleep.

The next time I woke up, the bandage was no longer on my neck. I sat up, feeling the side of my neck questioningly. My fingers ran over two small scars that had created bumps on my skin. I ran my tongue over the fangs in my mouth, instantly scared. Am I dead?
I could hear Dante and Jasmine talking. And I could hear them clearly. They were talking about how I was going to hunt, and how Kat was now in danger. I swung my legs over the side of the bed, my heightened senses scaring the crap out of me. I realized that the light was off, even though I could see clearly. I could see every detail in the door, in the walls. I could also hear a heartbeat. I glanced over the side of the bed to see Buttons looking up at me.
Whoa, I thought.
I stood, feeling slightly dizzy. I reached for the door, freezing. In the book, Lothaire, Ellie had super strength. She ripped the door handle right off. Swallowing, I gently turned the handle, and the door popped open.
I stepped up the stairs, walking into the living room. Jasmine and Dante were there, and their jaws dropped.
"Cassi? What are you doing up?" Dante asked.
I opened my mouth to speak, but he saw my fangs, "You have completed the change. I better get Vergil."
He turned and walked away as Jasmine moved cautiously towards me.
"How're you doing?" she asked.
I shrugged, "I feel pretty good. I just feel a little hungry."
She shook her head, "You aren't hungry, you have the Thirst."
I knew what she was talking about. I would have to drink blood. I heard footsteps, glancing up towards the kitchen. Vergil and Dante came through, Vergil walking up to me, "So the delicate human has turned into an Immortal Vampire. Well well well, I think we have a winner. Cassi, you have made history. You are the first female to survive the Change."
I blushed, "Are my eyes still red?"
Vergil nodded, "Yes, you need to hunt too. Feel any different?"
I nodded, "Yes. I can see in the dark, I can hear people talking from a long ways away, I am stronger than ever, and my sense of smell is better,"
Vergil's smile appeared again, "Yes. The perfect hunter."
I sniffed, "You smell nice."
He gave me a look, "Uh, okay?"
"And Dante must have been drinking again."
"I only had one beer."
"Vergil, how come I cannot smell your blood?"
"Because you are specially made to drink human blood. Nephilim blood doesn't bother you. It will help with the Thirst, but the human blood will be the best for you."
"So that is why Kat is in danger..."
"Yes."
I sat on the couch, looking around at the covered windows. They did this just for me...
"Later, Cassi, I will teach you how to hunt."
