I woke up at nine the next morning. Vergil wasn't in the bed beside me, and the blanket was smoothed down there. I sat up, stretching and pushing Buttons off of the bed.
I stood and dressed, walking down the stairs. I was greeted with the sight of Vergil, Dante, and Jasmine standing in the living room. They were holding a silent conversation, and they shut up as I walked down thye stairs. They truned to look at me, and I gave them a funny look.
"What? What is the big secret?"
Jasmine glanced away, and Dante did the same. Vergil pursed his lips, grabbing my arm and directing me to the kitchen. He shut the door, and leaned against it.I gave him a funny look.
"I...uh... Kyle won't be coming back here."
"Why?"
"He betrayed us. I will not let him anywhere near this house ever again."
I gave him a puzzled look. He motioned for me to follow him, and I did. He picked up his laptop, handing it to me. I opened it up.
"Try to recover any of my files in my documents."
I clicked on the document icon, surprised to see it was empty, "How do you know this was Kyle's doing?"
He leaned over, clicking on the camera icon. He then clicked on recently viewed, and a video popped up. He clicked play, and fast forwarded it to a specific part.
"I accidently clicked on the record camera button before I went to bed last night. It was filming the entire night."
I watched, dumbfounded as Kyle took his laptop, and began typing. He was oblivious to the laptop secretly filming. I watched as he cleared the documents from the pop up indicator, the screen showing what he was doing in a little box in the right corner.
He was gone in a flash, placing the laptop back and tracing away. Vergil took the laptop from me, placing it on the coffee table. He looked so calm, but deep inside, I knew he was seething. That was all of his work, his information, his leads on Mundus...
"What are you going to do? That was all of your information."
He pulled out a USB from his pocket, "Luckily I have all of my information stored on this bad boy. Thirty-two megabytes of storage, and almost impossible to hack. Everything I put on here cannot be erased, and I can always find it again."
I nodded. Here we go with the nerdy, techy talk again.
Dante slapped him on the back, "Nobody cares about your nerdy obsessions, Vergil."
Vergil smiled sarcastically at him, "Oh, and no one cares about you either, Dante."
Dante pointed at him, "Your mom."
Vergil watched as he disappeared into the kitchen. He yelled at his back, "We have the same mother, asshole!"
Dante flipped him the bird, closing the door. Vergil turned back to me, smiling, "Since Kyle is no longer your tutor, I will take the liberty of teaching you the rest of the way. He covered most of the basics; you need to learn how to fight. And I can teach you that much."
I smiled, knowing that Vergil was highly capable of teaching me everything I need to know now. He was a God, after all.
Jasmine walked up next to me, "I can help too. I know a little bit about fighting strategies."
Vergil nodded, "Good, Because I am going to make Cassi into a killing machine."
"Let me guess, I am going to be your assassin?"
"You can be if you want to be."
I shrugged, "I will have to think about it."
"Good. We will practice later."
At that moment, Dante came out with a sandwich and a beer, plopping down in a chair. Vergil turned to him.
"Isn't that right, Dante?"
"Huh? What did I miss?"
Vergil chuckled, turning and walking out the door. Dante turned his inquiring gaze to me. I really didn't want to re-explain it again, so I shrugged and followed Vergil.
It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing. Vergil stood on the deck, staring at the beautiful blue sky. I walked up to him, leaning against him.
"I am glad I don't have to hide from beautiful days like this."
He looked down at me, and I could feel his smile, "Yes. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to spend days like this with you."
I smiled and blushed, glancing at the thick woods behind the house. Vergil must have caught me staring, because he nudged me, "Wanna go for a walk in the woods?"
I nodded, "I love walking in the woods."
We walked down the steps, and into the woods. I loved how we were instantly enveloped it green trees, and how the sun filtered through the canopy of oaks and evergreens. It was cooler in the woods, and the grass was green. I looked all around at the old, fallen trees, deer trails, squirrel sign. It was beautiful.
I smiled happily at the natural flowers scattered in the undergrowth. They were a mixture of blossoms and colors, and they were beautiful. Among them, I found my favorite flower; A blue rose.
I smiled, running my fingers gently over the sharp thorns. The plant seemed so harmless, but if grabbed just right, it could rip your hands to shreds.
Nah, just kidding. The most it would have done was poke you.
Vergil crouched next to me, "What did you find here?"
I moved my hand so he could see. He seemed to stiffen like a board. I glanced back at him, "What's wrong?"
"My mother was connected to blue roses. I found one in the mansion when I was discovering our secrets." He ran his finger tips over the petals, "And it is weird to have such an endangered rose growing in the wilderness."
I reached down, plucking it from the plant. I knew more would grow back, and it would make a great center piece in the kitchen for a while. Vergil smiled at me, helping me stand. I brushed my knees off where I had knelt on the ground walking along side of him as we returned to the house.
I walked in first, holding the door for Vergil. I turned, and my forehead ran smack dab into a cold gun barrel. I blinked a couple of times, and then I realized who it was.
Jesse had returned.
