I woke up curled up in Vergil's arms. I was wearing thick pajamas, and Vergil was warm, but I was freezing to death. I shivered. Vergil stirred, and released me and rolled over onto his back with a sharp intake of breath. I sat up, stretching. I looked out the window at the rays of light that were shining in the window from the sun just rising above the horizon in the east. It was the beautiful colors of orange and red. I glanced back over at Vergil. His breaths were still deep and even.
I got up, fixing my side of the bed before opening the door and walking downstairs. The floor creaked noisily beneath my feet, and the stairs were no better.
I groggily walked up to the fridge, opening the silver door. I grabbed a water, taking a large swallow. I didn't care if Vergil didn't want me to or not, but I was thirsty.
The water did nothing to quench my thirst, and I realized I hadn't hunted for a night. That was my problem. Frustrated, I placed the bottle back into the fridge. This was getting annoying.
I sighed deeply. I was still tired, but I didn't feel like going back to bed. I sat on the couch next to Buttons, and she snorted happily. She snuggled against me, falling back asleep. I picked up Lothaire, and began reading again. I didn't have much left, and I was at the part where Dorada was about to extinguish Saroya's soul from Ellie's body.
I read for a while, and soon I was wide awake. I sighed, bookmarking the page. I stood, to Buttons' dismay, and walked up stairs. I had a change of clothes in Vergil's room.
I quietly opened the door, peeking in. He was up, looked like he had just gotten up. I smiled and walked in.
He smiled at me, "Hey. Good morning. How did you sleep?"
I shrugged, "Pretty good. I got really cold though."
"I noticed. Your toes were like ice."
I blushed. I turned, grabbing my neatly folded clothes from the top of him dresser. I started for the bathroom, and he stopped me, "What don't you trust me?"
"I uh, don't like changing in front of people."
He chuckled, "Don't worry, I understand. I was just picking on you."
I smiled and crossed the hall into the bathroom. I dressed, returning to his room to put my clothes in the hamper. He was already changed. He was wearing a pair of blue jeans, and a blue shirt.
He was sitting on the side of the bed tying his boots when I walked in. He glanced up at me, "Nice shirt."
I looked down at the blue and black t-shirt I was wearing. It wasn't much, but the neck cut down a little.
"What? Why would you like this shirt? It's just an ordinary shirt."
He stood, walking towards me, "Blue and black. They are my favorite colors."
"Oh."
He kissed me on the forehead, and walked down stairs. I followed shortly after. He was leaning against the counter, and he looked really tired.
"Vergil, if you are tired, then why don't you go back to bed?"
Vergil shook his head, "Nah, I 'm alright."
The stairs creaked, and Dante came down. He was dressed, but looked exhausted. He grabbed the glass pitcher part of the coffee maker, pouring himself a glass. He took a sip, then ran a hand through his already messy hair. I glanced over at Vergil. He was looking out the kitchen window at the landscape.
"So... What are we gonna do today?" I asked casually.
Vergil looked back down at me, "What do you want to do?"
I shrugged, "Hunt. I never hunted last night."
Vergil winced, "I thought we forgot about something."
"Maybe you can go hunting with Kyle tonight, " Dante suggested.
I nodded. W both would have to hunt, so it would work perfectly. And maybe he could teach me tips on hunting. Vergil seemed to agree with this as well. So it was decided.
I leaned into Vergil as he moved towards me. He pushed me gently to the living room, and he grabbed his laptop. He sat me down on the couch, and handed it to me. I gave him a weird look as he sat next to me, and opened it on my lap. I couldn't figure out what he was doing, but when I looked at the screen, I saw that a document was pulled up.
He motioned for me to read it, and I leaned closer to it. It was about my apartment, and why the SWAT members were there. They were looking for a blue necklace that I had, and they claimed it to be stolen from a museum.
I swallowed hard when I remembered the day I had stolen it from the place. I was young, and my parents had left without explanation. They were gone for two days straight, and I needed money. I stole the blue necklace from the display case, running from the place with the police on my tail. IO had made it home safely, but was too afraid to sell it. I kept it hidden, and for a while there, forgotten. And now I remember packing it.
Vergil leaned towards me, "Recognize it?"
I nodded, "Yeah. I uh, stole it when I was a really young kid."
He gave me the you did what?! look. I explained him the story. He nodded, "I would have done the same thing, just from a place less dangerous. Do you still have it?"
I nodded, retrieving it from my room. He took it from me, examining it closely. "You really stole this?"
I nodded, "And I am not proud of it either. I was young, Vergil. I didn't think I had a choice."
He nodded understandingly, placing it around my neck, "Keep this on you, Cassi. Mundus is looking for it, and we need to keep it from him."
I glanced down at it, "What is so special about this?"
He shrugged, "Beats me. But if Mundus wants it, we will not let him get his filthy hands off of it."
I hid it under the hem of my shirt, satisfied with the camoflaudge. He stood, shutting the laptop and placing it on the coffee table. I followed him to the kitchen once again, where he pulled out an apple. He placed it on the counter, and turned to me, "No touching the new supply of food. You know it is not healthy for you to eat."
I stuck my tongue out at him, with full intentions to steal some later. He took a bite, pointing at me to prove the point that he was not joking.
Dante was still standing there, groggily trying to keep his eyes open. Jasmine walked down, looking wide awake. I gave her a flabbergasted look,
"How can you be wide awake this early in the morning?"
She shrugged, "I don't know. I have never been this awake this early in my life."
Vergil smiled, "I have an idea."
She punched him hard in the arm, "Shut up, Vergil. That's not what I mean."
I smiled at Jasmine, and she instantly knew that I had an idea. She gave me the what? look. I turned to Vergil, "Hey Vergil, do you have the normal?"
He stopped chewing, "The what?"
Jasmine and I glanced at each other in horror. Jasmine began backing away, "He-he has the Normal!"
She tripped over dante's outstretched leg, and he grabbed her upper arm in time to stop her from falling. I backed away slowly, keeping my eyes on him. He threw his hands up in innocence, "What is the Normal?"
"Stay away from me, Vergil. I don't want to catch the normal."
He threw a look at Dante, "What are they talking about?"
"Well, obviously the Normal."
"Yeah, but what is the Normal?"
Jasmine leaned over, "Do you have the normal, Dante?"
He shook his head. Jasmine and I smiled as Vergil grew even more confused. I stepped back even farther, and he made as if he was going to grab me. I turned and bolted, locking him out of his room with a giggle.
