I ran alongside Vergil as we escaped from the building I was being held in. I still had the silver cuffs around my wrists; we'd have to remove them later. I still could not trace because of it. Or heal.
He pushed me out the door, and I jumped back, narrowly missing a car that screeched to a halt in front of us. It wasn't Dante either. It was Jesse.
He leaned out the window with a SMG, pulling the trigger. Bullets collided with the walls behind us, and Vergil pushed me away, keeping our heads down. He and I raced to the nearest delivery truck, climbing aboard. It took off, and we were stuck on top.
I turned to Vergil, shouting over the wind howling past our ears, "In which part of your mind was this a good idea?"
"I don't know," He shouted back, "I just knew we needed to get out of the line of fire, and the delivery truck for the next building seemed like a good idea."
I held onto the truck with every last bit of energy I had left. I looked back, and Jesse came cruising next to us in the left lane of the road. He aimed the gun out the passenger window, pulling the trigger again. I yelped, ducking as the bullets zoomed over my head. Vergil, who was crouched, conjuring swords. The were white, and electricity wafted off of them. He snarled at Jesse, but the sound was lost in the wind.
Jesse swerved as the electric swords pelted him. He crashed straight into a telephone pole, car stalling instantly. The truck diver kept going, music probably too loud to hear the gunshots.
Vergil looked over at me to see if I was alright, and I gave him a thumbs up. He nodded curtly. A roar filled the air, and I turned to see Dante speeding towards us. He pulled up alongside the truck driver, rolling down the passenger window .
"Jump on!"
Dante pulled the car closer to us, and Vergil jumped across. He turned, holding a hand out to me. I grabbed it, and he pulled me across. Dante was just opening the sun roof as a loud horn filled the air. A huge semi was barreling towards us. Dante slammed on the brakes, and Vergil and I went flying.
I crashed into the windshield of the semi, caving it in. Vergil on the other hand, slammed into the top of the semi, bouncing across and rolling off onto the blacktop due to the momentum.
I groaned, the glass digging into my back. The truck driver jumped out, checking to see if I was okay. I nodded, and he pulled out his cell phone, dialing 911. Dante jumped out of the car, racing past me to Vergil.
I heard him calling his name, "Vergil! Are you okay?!"
Vergil groaned, coughing, "Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay, brother."
The delivery truck driver kept on driving as if nothing had ever happened. Dante popped around the side of the truck, Vergil next to him. Vergil grabbed one arm, Dante grabbed the other. They pulled me out of the windshield.
I collapsed to my knees, feeling the blood run down my back. Vergil crouched behind me, lifting my shirt a little.
"Damn, that's a lot of glass. We need to get it out of you, now."
I limped along with the brothers as they helped me to the car. Ignoring the semi drivers protests about us leaving before the ambulance arrived, we got into the car, and Dante drove us home.
* * *
"Ow."
"Sorry," Vergil said, wiping a rag over the bleeding wounds on my back. They had cut the silver bonds around my wrists with a pair of wire cutters, and now Vergil was removing the shards of glass from my back.
I felt his gloved hand being placed onto my back as he dug in with the tweezers again. I arched my back painfully away from him, "OW!"
He dropped a piece of glass into the glass bowl next to him, "Sorry, Cassi. But we need to remove this glass."
"How much more?"
"A lot."
I sighed as Jasmine walked into the room with a bottle of hydrogen peroxide. I tensed as Vergil pulled out another shard, "Really? Peroxide? Vergil, I'm not going to get an infection. I am a Vampire."
"You can never be too careful, Cassi. This will protect you from demonic diseases as well."
Vergil held out a square of clean gauze with a bloody, gloved hand. Jasmine took it, dousing it in peroxide. He pressed it against a healing wound, earning a yelp from me. I arched away from him again, but he grabbed my shoulder, "Stop moving."
"It's kinda hard not to when you are in pain."
"Do you need pain medication?"
"Can a vampire even have pain medication?"
Vergil dropped another piece of glass in the bowl, "Probably."
"Probably? You mean you don't know?"
I could almost feel him shrug, "Not a clue."
I sighed, feeling the sting of peroxide on my back. Dante walked in, taking a seat next to Jasmine. The chair I sat on became instantly uncomfortable, too many people staring at me at a time. Vergil seemed to sense this, stopping long enough to whisper in my ear, "Why don't you tell us about what happened in Mundus's tower."
I shifted uncomfortably, gripping the back of the chair tighter. Where did I start?
"So, uh, I had a horrible time with my, uh, kidnapping. Jesse took me to Mundus, where he made me into a thief. He sent me out to steal sixty five grand from the president. I almost succeeded, but I was caught by five security guards. They shot me with shock charges to bring me down, and slapped silver onto my wrists to stop me from tracing away. I was dragged to a van, where they told me I was going to be tortured and killed.
"Well, I was also told that I killed one of the guy's brothers. A guard's named Sherman. And the one that Vergil killed. They took me to a guy named Gavin. He probed me for information about Mundus, and Kat. I came up short because, well I don't know a whole lot on Mundus. He told me I was not useful, and soon found I was a Daywalker. He called Sherman in to torture and kill me, and he was about to murder me when Vergil stormed in. We escaped, and Jesse musta been coming for me, because he chased us down, guns a blazin. And the rest you already know."
Dante shook his head, "That's about as much action I get in a week."
"How did you guys survive?"
"Kyle," Vergil said
"I thought he was a traitor."
Dante shrugged, "Well, he saved us."
I nodded, another piece of important info popped into my head, "Also, Kat is pregnant. With Mundus's child."
