I, Thief

Jesse traced me to Silver Sacks Tower, and we appeared in Mundus's office. I stood there warily as he cleared his throat, "My lord?"

Mundus stood from his chair, turning to face us, "Ah, Cassi is here. What was her decision?"

"She chose to join you, sir."

He smiled, walking slowly up to me, "Why did you choose this? Hmm? Was it because you wish to live? Or do you want to stay with that piece of shit Nephilim?"

I clenched my jaw, but refused to answer him. I did it for both. And I wasn't ashamed to admit it, I just didn't want to admit in front of him. I knew what he would do.

Mundus's face hardened as he turned around. He walked back to the Hell Gate, staring into it's red depths as if he was watching a movie.

"He's not a piece of  shit." I called to his back.

Bad move, I told myself.

He spun, his eyes drilling into mine with such an intensity that I gasped and looked down. He stared at my head for several seconds.

"You dare talk back to me?!"

I swallowed as he began walking towards me with a slow, powerful stride. Now I had done it.

He grabbed me by the ponytail, yanking my head back with such a force, my neck cracked painfully. I let out a little cry, prying at his hand. I was staring at his face as he bared his teeth, "You are mine now. You will do as I say, you will obey. If I have to torture it into you, so be it."

He threw me roughly to the ground. I sprawled, scrambling to a sitting position. He stared down at me with victory written upon his features.

"You were once an Uncle. And Uncle to two wonderful young boys. And you should have been proud."

"I will never be related to the Nephilim. They were born into this world to kill me. Why would I be related to my own death?"

"Because you share the same blood as them."

He stared hard at me, "What are you getting at? Your Nephilim friends are dead."

"No they aren't. I called an ambulance. The humans will take care of them."

Mundus smiled over at Jesse. Jesse's grin was wide and knowing. I furrowed my brow, "What?"

"That was a dummy call. Those dispatchers? Those are my demons. They act as humans to keep them calm."

"So-"

Jesse cut in, "So that means Vergil probably bled to death."

My jaw dropped and dread crashed through me. No! We were so close to winning this!

"It's over, Cassi. You are my servant now."

I swallowed, hanging my head in defeat.

So close...

I was dressed in all black attire. A black cape hung over my head as a hood, hanging down to my knees. I had a metal chest plate, pure black trousers, and black velvet boots. A black cloth covered my facial features. And the regret written upon my face.

Jesse was right. Mundus choose me as his thief; chose me to rob from those who owed him money. And there were a lot who did.

"Yes... You will blend into the dark shadows quite well in this outfit. Perfect for a thief."

Mundus sat at his table, Kat standing next to him. I gave Kat a deadly stare, ready to rip her apart when I had my first chance.

She stared at me with a snotty stare, knowing she was higher up than I. But the one thing she needed to consider was that I was willing to sacrifice my life to rip her to threads. Mundus stood, walking towards me.

"What is on your mind?"

I looked away, replying with a snotty voice, "Nothing."

He grabbed the front of my shirt roughly, yanking me towards him, "Speak to me with respect! I am your master now!"

I snarled at him, baring my fangs. He stared down at me, his eyes burning into mine. I refused to look away. If he killed me; all well.

He snarled at me from between his teeth, "Apologize."

"No."

He threw me to the ground, and I traced, standing across the room. That gave me an idea; I was going to trace from the building and go to Vergil's house to see if he was okay.

I tensed to trace, and was beginning to disappear, when Jesse came out of no where, tackling me to the ground. He fought to pin me, and I pushed up against him, trying to slide away from him.

Mundus joined the brawl, Yanking me to my feet and throwing me against the opposite wall. I hit my head hard, and collapsed to the floor. Mundus was there in an instant, his fist connecting to my face with a loud crack.

"Take this as a warning: I will kill you if you desert me."

I gripped his hand around my throat. He released me, and slumped against the ground. Mundus smiled, "Now, Jesse, take her to her quarters."

I sat on the bed silently. I was in the same room I was in when I was first kidnapped. I had nothing to do, and I was accompanied only by my thoughts. I thought about Vergil, if he was dead or alive. I thought about why he wasn't healing that day. Didn't he say something about that?

I remembered him talking to me about his amulet. I remembered him saying about if there is a bullet shot at him, and it is not lodged into his body, the amulet will heal him. If the bullet is lodged, then he will bleed until the bullet is removed; which could cause a painful death.

I hung my head, clasping my fingers. He is dead. He bled to death.

Unless Jasmine woke up and stopped the bleeding, Vergil was dead. And so was Dante.
