Chapter 23

VIC'S POV

I was awoken by the sound of rustling and a loud crunching noise. I frowned and rubbed my eyes slowly getting up. In front of me sat Austin, munching on a potato chip.

'Moooorning!' He cooed. I smiled slightly, 'Morning.' I replied, mid-yawn. I looked around to see everyone asleep and Jeuse missing. 'Where's Jeuse?' I asked Austin, glancing around. He shrugged, 'Dunno, he sometimes takes walks when he can't sleep, he'll be back soon.' He said. I nodded and got up, 'I'm gunna get a hot chocolate from the drinks machine, want anything?' I asked. Austin smiled and got up, 'I'll come with you.'

'How long have you been here?' I asked, waiting for my cup to fill up with the warm brown liquid. He shrugged, 'Not long, a few weeks. We're trying to figure out what we're going to do when we leave.' He said. I frowned. 'I mean, of course we're gunna leave. We can't stay in here forever, we'll run out of supplies soon enough.' He finished. I frowned again, 'You haven't heard about London?' I asked, then mentally slapped myself, of course he hasn't. I couldn't believe Ashley and Andy had when we met them. 'Pfft, London? Never heard of it.' He said sarcastically. I took my drink and put a lid on it.

'I mean what's in London.' I said, rolling my eyes. 'Well, I've heard that there are these things called buildings and there are black cabs.' He said. I rolled my eyes again. 'Stop with the sarcasm.'

He sniggered and took his own drink from the machine. 'So you really haven't heard?' I asked. He frowned and shook his head. 'Heard about what?' A voice said. I turned around to face Jeuse, slightly startled at his sudden appearance. 'London.' I said simply. He laughed, 'Well of course I've heard about London, I used to work there.'

I sighed, 'No, I mean whats in London, The walled city.' I said. He frowned and shook his head, 'What the hell are you going on about?' He asked. I sighed again, 'Ask Tay, she'll explain it all.'

He nodded slowly and followed me back to where everyone else was. Tay, Kellin and Andy had woken up. 'Jeez! There you are Vic!' Kellin yelled and threw his arms around me. I laughed and hugged him back, 'I've only been gone for five minutes!' I told him. Kellin blushed, 'Thats long enough for me to miss you.' He whined.

'Awwwww!' Jesus said. Kellin's face reddened as he pulled away. I giggled and pecked him on the lips.

'So...London?' Jesus said.

Tay explained everything and by the end Jeuse, Alan and Austin had very confused looks on their faces.

'Wow.' Austin whispered.

'You think you're actually gunna make it to London?' Jeuse asked, a disbelieving look on his face. I plastered on a smile. 'Yes.' I said, even though I wasn't sure myself. He looked me in the eye and frowned. I think he knew I was lying.

'Okay.' He said simply. 'Y-You're gunna come with us, r-right?' Kellin asked, hopefully. Jeuse frowned, 'Kells, it's basically suicide!' He said. Kellin's eyes glistened with tears. 'I'd rather fail then never try, we'll die if we stay here.' He said. 'You'll die if you go!' His dad argued. Tears split down Kellins face. 'Son, I've only just got you back, I can't lose you again.' Jeuse whispered. A sob escaped Kellins lips, 'I'm not staying here, I'm going to try to get to London no matter what.' He said. His dad nodded. 'Even if you don't choose to come with us.' Kellin finished, his voice finally breaking, sobs rattling his chest. I wrapped my arms around him a pulled him into a hug.

'Kells, of course I'm coming with you, there's no way i'm leaving your side again.' His dad said sternly. Kellin looked up, wiping his blood-shot, puffy eyes, 'Y-you are?' He stuttered. Jeuse sighed and nodded, 'Of course, even if it is a death trap.' He said with a small smile. 'Thanks Dad.' Kellin whispered.

'We were planning on leaving today, is that still right?' Gabe asked. We nodded. Jeuse reluctantly nodded and got up, 'Better get packing, long journey ahead...'

He chucked his backpack at Austin, 'Can you pack, I need to talk to Vic in private.' He said. I nodded to Kellin, telling him it was fine to leave.

When everyone had left, Jeuse looked at me and sighed. 'You don't think we're going to make it do you?' He asked. I sighed and shrugged, 'Might as well try, there's nothing better here.' I said. He nodded slightly. 'And if Kellin's going then I definitely am.' I added on. He looked at me and frowned slightly, his lips curving into a small smile, 'You really love him don't you?' He asked. I nodded, 'Yeah, I do.' I whispered. He smiled and pulled me into a hug. I was shocked by his actions but soon relaxed and hugged him back as awkward-free as possible. But knowing me, I still made it awkward.

'Should probably help packing, Austin isn't the most helpful.' He finally said, pulling away. I nodded and grabbed my backpack, filling it with as much as possible.

I managed to fit in two pairs of clean jeans, three tshirts, many bottles of water and snacks that wouldn't go off in my bag. I didn't know how i'd be able to carry it around due to its extremely heavy weight, but I guess i'll manage.

I turned to face Jeuse. 'Do you know how to get to Orlando?'

He smiled and nodded. 'It's gunna take a while to walk though.' He added with a frown. I smirked, 'Oh, we're not walking.' I completely forgot about the camper van but I suddenly remembered and it made me feel more hope in some way, even though I knew the Ocean would be the hardest part. 'Oh?' Jeuse asked. I had a ridiculous grin on my face by now, 'We have a camper van.' I smiled.

Jeuse's face turned into a massive smile, 'Brilliant!' He said. I nodded. 'We're on the outskirts of Nashville though.' He said. I frowned, 'Yeah...?'

'That means we'll have to drive through the city, and trust me, there are a lot of walkers in cities.' He said. 'Oh.' I whispered quietly. He quickly smiled again, 'But it's okay, we'll manage to get through it, okay?' He asked. I nodded. I suddenly thought of Hayley, it's been a while since I thought of her, but now it hit me hard. I guess we were all so focused on surviving that I didn't think of it that much, I mean, I did. Quite a lot actually but it was mainly covered by my worry for Mike. I guess it's only just sunk in that i'll never see her again, she's gone forever.

A voice snapped me out of my thoughts. 'You alright?' Jeuse asked, concern on his face. I wiped my eyes and nodded, not realising I had been crying.

'Y-yeah, it's just the talk of walkers remind me of my brothers Girlfriend..she was killed by them.' I whispered. He nodded sympathetically. 'I understand, my wife was murdered by them too.' He said with a small smile. 'I'm sorry.' I whispered, feeling bad for him. He shook his head, 'Don't be, its not like its your fault. Anyway, I thought Mike was dating Tony?' He asked, confused. I chuckled slightly, 'Yeah, she died a small while ago now and he didn't cope very well and Tony was there for him a lot and I guess they just kinda..I dunno.' I laughed, 'But it's good to have seen him move on anyway.' I smiled. Jeuse smiled back, 'Yeah.'

We finished packing and gathered round.

'Whose ready to get to London?' Jeuse said, before opening the door and exposing us to the real world once more...
