A Warrior's Quest (Book 2)

Chapter 2

The warm dry air of the night embraces me as I step out of the main door of the lodge. My head was still spinning from my conversation with Master Chow. "Onyx is very much alive. She is in you."

I couldn't get his words out of my head. There is no way I was Onyx. There's no possible way she could even be alive because she was supposedly around thousands of years ago. No. There was no way what Master Chow said was true. He's just a crazy old man.

I sigh and look up at the stars. Tonight it seemed as if there were more stars out than normal; the whole sky twinkled with the light they gave off almost like they were dancing.

I don't know how I get myself into these situations. All I want to do is live a normal life like I used to.

Well now that I think about it I guess it's not all that bad. I mean I made two new friends in Briggan and Azula, even if though at first they both tried to kill me, plus I met Star. Not to mention I got interesting new powers and saved my entire village.

I shake my head and laugh at myself. Man I don't know why I'm complaining; my hand has been dealt to me and I'm liking the way it's played it out.

I walk up to my house and open the door. Inside I find Star sitting on the couch in the living room.

She looks up from her book when she hears me come in "So, how was your chat with Master Chow?"

"Ok I guess." I reply while sitting next to her on the couch.

Star raises an eyebrow. "Are you sure? You seem kinda tense." Star replies suspiciously.

"Yeah I'm fine." I say trying to keep my voice calm and level.

Star closes her book. "Obviously something is bothering you." She sighs and her expression softens "Does someone need a hug?"

I laugh a little "Yeah sure why not. You give great hugs anyway."

Star holds her arms out and motions toward her. "Aww thanks pal. Come on bring it in."

Star gives me a huge bear hug and I gladly accept it.

We sit there on the couch for a while embracing each other. It was nice to just sit there in peace and forget about everything.

"Ah so I see." Star says suddenly.

"What are you talking about?" I ask.

"You know what I'm talking about." Star says smugly.

"What are you-" I start to say suspiciously.

Star starts laughing. I'm still confused, but my brain slowly starts putting it together.

I push her away. "You little!" I say frustratedly.

Star shrugs. "What? You looked bothered by something so I wanted to help. That's one of the main ways I know how to help."

I flop back onto the couch. "Funny how that's your way of helping." I reply.

"Sooo...about your meeting with Master Chow."

"What about it?" I say while trying to act oblivious.

Star playfully punches me in the arm. "Quit stalling, I read your mind so I know what happened."

"Ugh you told me you'd stop doing that!" I reply annoyed.

"Shh." Star silences me "Don't let your anger ruin the beauty that was our bear hug earlier."

Despite my anger towards Star I manage to laugh at that statement.

"There's that smile I love so much." Star replies.

"Yeah you always know how to cheer me up." I say.

Suddenly Star yawns.

"It seems I'm not the only one who's tired." I remark. "

Star gets up and stretches. "Well said my friend. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to bed." She stops just before she goes into her room. "Oh and don't let what Master Chow said about Onyx bother you."

"Yeah...goodnight Star." I reply.

"Goodnight pal."

My mom comes out of her room "Hey sweetie how'd the meeting with Master Chow go?"

"It was fine I guess." I reply.

My mom gives me a hug. "Whatever happens tomorrow please promise me that you'll be careful and that you'll try to make it home in one piece."

"I'll try- wait how-"

"Star told me." My mom says.

"Of course." I say exasperatedly. "I'll do my best, but you know I can't promise you that I'll stay out of trouble." I say with a smirk.

I then yawn massively.

My mom smiles "You better get to bed, you're probably going to have an early day tomorrow."

"Alright good night mom." I reply.
