I tighten the straps on my backpack and slide thread my arms into it. "Ok so is everyone ready?" I ask.
"I think so." Star replies while she shielding her eyes from the glare. "Man, why does all this stupid sand have to be so bright?"
"It's because the sun reflects off of the individual grains of sand and bounces it back into your eyes." I reply with a casual wave of my hand.
Star rolls her eyes "I wasn't actually asking a question. Jeez, don't you know what a rhetorical question is?"
"Oh is that what you were doing? It sounded like you asked a real question to me." I reply while playfully poking Star.
"You better be glad you're my friend, otherwise, I would punch you right now." Star huffs.
"I'm ready!" Tiny huffs.
"And where is it that you ran off to?" I ask.
"Yeah kid, you're lucky we didn't leave you." Star teases.
"I had to go back for my red ninja headband." Tiny replies excitedly, clearly unphased by Star's teasing.
"Well you are lucky we didn't leave you little bro, but I gotta say, your headband does look nice on you." I reply while tousling his fur.
"So where exactly are we going first?" Tiny asks.
I pull Master Chow's map that he gave us from my bag "Well...according to this, we're going to the very center of the Jade Desert, which is apparently called Jade Falls."
"Alright a waterfall in the center of the desert, that's totally normal." Star says sarcastically. She smirks and elbows me "Well at least on the way we can pick up Azula and Briggan for some extra fox power."
I shake my head "And that is why you need to stick to fighting and leave all the joke making to me."
"I thought it was funny." Star mumbles. "And who said you were the funny one? I definitely disagree."
"Yeah, well don't quit your day job." I reply.
"No like seriously, who said you were the funny one?" Star says.
I laugh and shake my head. "Come on, we need to get going."
Star narrows her eyes at me and points menacingly. "This is not over. I will get it out of you one way or another Essix, I must know."
I shrug. "Whatever you gotta do I guess."
Tiny climbs onto my back and then Star and I spread our wings and launch into the sky. Here begins yet another crazy adventure story that is now my life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"We should be nearing the Sand Town." I shout over the wind.
We had been flying for at least an hour or two and all we had seen so far was sand, sand, and more sand. Occasionally a dead bush or a cactus. Not really much to keep you entertained.
"I hope so because the sun's setting and I don't wanna fly blind at night in the desert." Star replies. "Also I've run out of songs to sing."
"Thank goodness." Tiny mumbles under his breath.
"Oh wait! I just remembered a song I used to love to sing when I was little; it's a polar bear folk song my mom used to sing to me all the time, I know you guys are gonna love it." Star exclaims.
Tiny covers his ears with his hands. "Oh for the love of Onyx please no."
Star takes a deep breath "Ohhh ice and snow-"
Just as Star was about to start her horrible, offkey singing, I saw the small glow of the lanterns in the village square below us.
"Oh look the village square! Let's stop for the night my wings are killing me!" I say quickly.
"Aww, but I didn't get to sing you guys my song." Star replies sadly.
"It'll be ok. Let's land." I say.
"Hmph fine I guess..." Star replies.
I quickly descend into the town with Star following behind me.
