Chapter 38

As I saw the portal close around Dark Essix instantly I felt a lot better. But of course there's always that one thing that has to ruin everything. I looked towards the cliff and saw the Nightmare bubble was cracking. "Crud!" I spread my wings and jumped into the air. With Onyx's enhanced speed I was able to reach the cliff just in time to see the bubble burst and Briggan fell towards the lava pit below. I folded my wings and dove after him. Embers flew past my face and landed on my wings, even though my wings were stinging I pushed through the pain and kept going. Briggan was getting closer and closer; however, each second I got closer to him I also got closer to the lava. Finally I reached Briggan. I wrapped my arms around him and opened my wings to stop myself from falling. There was ash on Briggan's face from where the embers landed. I brushed it off and thought back to what Dark Essix said "Those who are trapped in my nightmare bubble are trapped in an eternal sleep of nightmares." I was then afraid that Briggan would never wake up again. Then Briggan's eyes fluttered and he slowly opened them; I almost dropped him in the lava from surprise. Briggan squinted up at me "Essix, is that you?" "Yeah it's me big guy." I replied. "You look different." Briggan mumbled then he looked around with a confused expression on his face "Why are we hovering over a lava pit?"

"I saved you from burning alive in lava." I replied casually. "Oh...well thanks for saving me." Briggan said with one of his goofy smiles. "You're welcome, now let's get you back with everyone." I said. "Wait." Briggan stopped me mid wing flap. "What is it?" I asked. "I heard what you said to Dark Essix." Briggan said. "Oh...y-you did?" I'm glad the heat from the lava had already turned my face red because I have never been more embarrassed in my life. "Was it true?" Briggan asked. "Was what true?" I asked stupidly. I mentally facepalmed. "What you said about me. Is your head full of cotton fluff?" Briggan said jokingly. "Oh that..." I hesitated then took a deep breath. Time to admit my feelings. "Yes...what I said was true."

"Ok. That means I can tell you my secret, but you have to lean down here so I can tell you." Briggan said. I rolled my eyes "Fine." I leaned down and Briggan put his hand on the side of my face, his touch felt warm against my face "Do you know why I was the one to volunteer to save you?" He paused for dramatic effect and looked me directly in the eyes, his eyes danced with the light from the lava "I love you Essix." Then Briggan completely took me by surprise, he kissed me. Not one of those 2 second kisses, it was like the ones in romance films, a good kiss. When he stopped I could feel my face was extremely hot from blushing, but Briggan was blushing too. Wow, who would've thought that Star was right? I gotta hear this the rest of my life, she'll never let it down... "Uh...let's get back to everyone else, they probably think we fell in the lava." I said quickly. I flapped my wings and we shot upwards. Briggan smirked "I like you in this form, you're very cute this way." "So you're saying I'm normally not cute." I replied. "No...I'm saying that you're beautiful no matter what form you're in." Briggan then mumbled "You're just ten two times hotter this way." I laughed and shook my head "Easy there fox boy." Briggan glared up at me. "Relax, I'm just, lighten up." I said.
