Layers of the Heart

The heart

beating strong,

until it all

goes wrong.

Leaving it like

a soft, delicate

shell as the

layers slowly

peel away.

Then one day

it struggles to

remain at all

as the final

layer falls away.

I'm left with

nothing but pain.

How could lover

go so wrong,

as to destroy

both people as

if to say it

was not meant

to be

after all.

Maybe it just is

not fate to

prove them all

wrong, because

all the pain

I feel falls

upon your love.

It seems so

unreal like a

weird dream

but the day has

come, to let

the final layer

fall.
