Chapter 11

Chapter 11: She knows?

Twila's POV

"Twila! Wake up! We still have to go shopping!" A high-pitched voice shattered the peaceful silence of my room, jolting me awake. Ally and that ability of hers is really- effective.

I sat up groggily, nakapikit parin ang mga mata. "Anong meron?" I mumbled, still half-asleep.

"May ball mamaya, remember?" Freysha said while heading towards the bathroom. Oh right. Today's a special day—my birthday. My 18th birthday. "Classes are canceled so we can all prepare for it!" She excitedly said. 

Although the ball is officially held to celebrate the birthday of the princess--- me, this annual party became like a prom to them. So, it isn't really all about the princess but rather an opportunity for everyone to socialize, enjoy the party, and celebrate their shared experiences. That's why they're this excited about it.

'My dear! Happy Birthday! Your powers will manifest later so be extra careful.' Remember, 8 pm sharp!  I heard my mother say. 

I could feel a smile tugging at the corners of my lips. 'Thanks, Mom. Noted.'

"Hello?! Earth to Twila!" Ally's voice dragged me back to the present, her hands placed by her hips waiting for a response. "Sabi ko, maligo ka na! Today is gonna be a busy day!" Her foot tapped on the floor with exaggerated impatience, and her eyes widened as if she couldn't believe I was still lazing around. I chuckled, ang OA talaga. I just shrugged and went to the bathroom as she ordered me to.

No one knows it's my birthday today, and I don't plan to tell them so. Gusto ko low-key lang ang araw na 'to. This day isn't just my birthday, but a huge turning point for me--- it's the day I will unlock my magical abilities.

After a refreshing shower, I changed into something comfortable: blue jeans, a simple white-blue shirt, and my trusty Converse sneakers. The outfit wasn't anything fancy, but it felt just right for the day ahead.

When I walked back into the room, Ally and Freysha stared at me like I had just walked off a runway. "You look stunning, Twi!" Ally exclaimed with her eyes glistening na para bang nakakita ng artista--- the same look she gives sa royalties.

"Alam mo, Ally? Ikaw talaga human embodiment ng ka-OA-han." I said jokingly.

"Pero seryoso, Twila. Something's different! Ang blooming mo ngayon." Freysha narrowed her eyes suspiciously, stepping closer to inspect me. I sighed. 

"Pati ikaw, Frey? Kayo ang hilig niyo talaga mang-asar." I said laughing. I don't know if legit 'yang sinasabi nila o pambobola lang. I glanced at the mirror nearby, catching a glimpse of my reflection. There was a certain glow about me—my skin seemed brighter, my hair shinier. May kinalaman ba 'to sa birthday ko?

We headed out together, the three of us practically marching toward Lem Mall. As soon as we entered the mall, I barely had time to breathe before they grabbed me, pulling me towards the racks of dresses like two fashion-starved wolves.

"Sandali!" I exclaimed.

"Try this one, Twila!" Ally tossed a delicate lavender gown at me without even looking at the size.

"No, no! Try mo 'to" Freysha said tapos hinagis saakin ang isang bubblegum pink dress from the rack. "It's perfect!"

"Green!" Ally argued, pulling out a vibrant emerald gown.

Freysha rolled her eyes. "Green? Seriously? Gusto mo bang magmukha siyang lumot?"

"Over!" Ally shot back. "Coming from you, ha? Ano ba alam mo sa fashion?" Then they continued bickering habang ako nanonood lang sa kalokohan nitong dalawa.
