Halloween was finally upon us, and I still had to wear my cast. As long as I did nothing to crack it, I should have it off in no time. The doctor said I was healing nicely, and my therapy sessions were going well. The nightmares have subsided a bit. The investigation was also drawing to a close. My parents could settle with the insurance company and have our house rebuilt.

Drew also moved in and let us say the guys were keeping a close eye on him. We were hanging out in his bedroom, working on homework, when the door opened quickly, making us look up from our books. It was Uncle Frazier.

"Can we help you?" I asked Frazier.

"It was quiet, so I thought I would check on you both to make sure you weren't sleeping," Frazier said, doing air quotes on the emphasis of sleeping.

We gave Frazier a look, and he shrugged, leaving and also leaving the door open. I got up and closed the door. We went back to our homework, checking our answers with each other. Then someone else knocked on the door and opened it. We looked up to see Dad standing there.

"Hungry?" Dad asked us.

"No, Dad. Can we get back to our homework before it turns midnight, and we're still working on it?" I asked, becoming irritated.

"Okay," Dad said defensively and left, leaving the door open. I got back up and closed it again. We went back to working on our homework when someone interrupted us repeatedly from different people each time until every single person had checked on us.

Drew tossed his notebook down and felled back onto the bed, rubbing his face in frustration. "Honestly, what do they think we're doing? Getting our freak on?" Drew asked me.

"I don't know, but I would like to get this done," I said as I continued to write. Then Drew popped up and looked at me, "What?" I asked.

"Why not give them a reason to check on us?" Drew asked me.

"What do you mean?" I asked Drew.

"Follow my lead," Drew winked at me as I looked at him, then he got up and crawled over to the headboard. Drew started bouncing on the bed, making the bed squeak. I understood what he's doing and joined him as we made the bed squeak a lot along with the headboard hit the wall. Then he started groaning loudly. I moaned loudly.

We heard footsteps and picked up the pace, making the squeaking faster, then as we listened to the steps move toward the door, we let out the loudest groans ever.

The door flew open with the adults and kids standing there as we knelt on the bed, holding onto the headboard. They stared at us as we looked back at them, and Drew said, "Were we too loud? Because you know how it can be when you are bouncing on a bed that has squeaky springs. That reminds me, this bed needs some WD-40, or it might keep me up at night."

"What is going on here?" Dad asked.

"Oh, you know, checking out the bed springs to make sure they are secure enough for Drew. We wouldn't want him to get hurt, now would we?" I asked innocently. Their jaws dropped open as I added, "Did you think we would do that with everyone in the same house? I may be a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them. If I do that, I will not be home."

"Well, um," Dad said, speechless.

I rolled my eyes as Drew said, "Now, maybe we can have some peace so that we can finish our homework."

"Homework? Is that what you both were doing all this time?" Mom asked.

"Well, trying until frick and frack over there along with everyone else kept interrupting us," Drew pointed to Dad and Frazier.
