Maddy's POV- December 2016
I pushed the door open and let out a light sigh as I reached for my suitcase to pull it inside Auston's apartment. The apartment was not what I expected, I honestly expected it to look more like a bachelor pad. Then again, Alex had mentioned that Ema (Their mom) had done a lot of redecorating when they were here for Thanksgiving. I placed the keys that Auston had mailed to me on the counter and began a self tour. I scrunched up my nose when I noticed the dirty dishes on the kitchen counter. I decided to clean up because it was the most I could do. I removed my jacket and pulled my hair up in a ponytail before I washed the dishes and quickly cleaned up the kitchen. My phone chimed as the NHL app informed me the Leafs beat the Bruins 4-1. It was then that I decided to take a shower. Just as I made my way out, my phone chimed. I wrapped a towel around my body before I looked at the screen. I had a text from Auston that asked,
Are you awake? 😶
I smiled and replied to the text.
Yes, just got out of the shower
I set the phone on the bathroom sink and began doing my night routine. Once my hair was blowdried and I was in my pjs, I made my way to the guest room. About two episodes into the second season of Code Black, I heard a light knock.
"Come in" I called out.
The door slowly opened and Auston peaked inside.
"I figured you'd be asleep"
I smiled and paused the stream.
"I should be, but one episode turned into two" I stated.
I patted the spot next to me.
"What are you watching?"
He leaned forward, giving me a light squeeze.
"Code Black" I replied.
I admit, I was a bit bummed out that he was no wearing his suit. Auston knew how to clean up real well when it came to suits. He smelled great, so that was a perk.
"How was your flight?" I asked.
"I spent the entire flight trying to convince Mitch that he couldn't come over"
"He's not here, right?" I wondered.
He chuckled and shook his head. I was not wearing enough clothes to meet people.
"No, we've got a game tomorrow so I convinced him to go home and sleep"
"What time is your game at?" I asked.
"It's an early afternoon game, and we've got no practice"
I nodded and smiled when he raised his pointer finger at me.
"No embarrassing stories Mads"
I laughed.
"You embarrass yourself all on your own Aus" I joked.
He rolled his eyes.
"How were finals?"
"I think I did well" I replied.
"One more semester"
Credit wise, I was set. I was done with my major requirements, I just needed my GenEds. Meaning my last semester was going to be fairly easy.
"I did take an extra year" I noted.
"That's cause you double majored Mads. You're a student athlete who maintained above a 3.5 GPA. You also happened to get two national titles with a team that had never won a national title. Back to back titles, it's something to be proud of. So what you took an extra year, it's normal to do that and if people say it's not normal then they're haters"
I smiled.
"When did you get so wise?" I asked.
He grinned.
"I've always been wise"
He threw his head back and laughed as I scoffed. I watched as he composed himself and let out a sigh.
"So how long are you here for?"
"Until next Sunday" I answered.
"Good, we got a nice homestand so you're going to be seeing me all week"
I smiled.
"I was thinking we could get brunch tomorrow"
He cocked his head to the side.
"Be ready by 11?"
"Sounds good" I replied.
I enjoyed sleeping, and I was touched he had remembered that.
"So how have you been?"
"When I'm not at practice I'm in class, and when I'm not doing either I'm sleeping, eating or doing homework" I told him.
"To think you get to do this for 2-3 more years"
"Yay" I dryly said.
He chuckled.
"You like what you do, so I'm sure it's worth it"
I nodded and scooted away from him.
"Sit down, let's talk. Tell me about your hot shot NHL life" I stated.
He smiled and got under the blankets.
"I like how you were sitting in the dark watching TV on your laptop when there's a TV mounted on the wall across from you"
"I'm a simple girl" I sassed.
"That you are"
I shrugged and watched as he leaned back against the bed rest
"So how are you?" I asked.
He let out a sigh and nodded.
"It's hard, but I'm having the time of my life"
"That's nice to hear, not that you're tired but that you're genuinely enjoying your time" I admitted.
We talked for a bit, and then he decided I was going to finish watching the episode he had interrupted. I didn't have the heart to wake him up, so I shut off my laptop and lied down next to him. He smelled nice and he was warm, so it was comforting and allowed me to fall asleep.
