Madeline's POV- Easter Sunday 2017

"Did you just get back?"

I glanced up as Manny placed three bags of Chinese takeout on the kitchen counter.

"Yeah, about a half hour ago" I answered.

We both turned our attention to the living room when we heard a groan. Mel was standing in the middle of the living room, and was surrounded by empty beer bottles, and red solo cups. I was thankful I had not been home this weekend. When I walked into the house a half hour ago I nearly threw up. The house smelled like a combination of beer, tequila, fruity cocktails, and cleaning supplies.

"Who's dumb idea was it to throw a party the weekend before finals?"

They had a last minute party last night, and the house was apparently a giant mess. Manny had woken up early and did most of the cleaning. Mel asked for me to keep her company while she cleaned, which is why I was seated in the kitchen.

"It was a mutual decision"

I had yet to see Jon, but I knew he was not feeling well because he had puked about fifteen minutes ago. From the sound of his groaning, he had fun last night. He took a shower, and had just gotten out.

"At least none of us have finals tomorrow"

Finals would officially begin tomorrow. It was crazy to think that these would be my last round of exams of my undergrad career.

"Go put your laptop away"

I closed my laptop and stood up.

"Check on Jon, yeah?"

"I was going to either way" I replied as I got my laptop.

Manny chuckled and began setting up the table as I walked down the hallway. Poppy and Marie stopped what they were doing when I opened the door to the room. When I paid no attention to them, they went back to playing. I set my laptop on my desk and made my way out of the room.

"Jon" I called out as I knocked on the door to his and Manny's shared room.

I opened the door to see Jon sitting on his bed, in just his boxers.

"Food's here" I told him.

He nodded slowly.

"How bad do I look?"

I hummed.

"You've looked worse" I admitted.

The shower he had just taken certainly helped. His voice doesn't sound so raspy at the moment.

"Get dressed and come eat" I said before stepping out of the room.

I made my way back to the living room where it looked like Mel had made no progress in cleaning.

"Hey Maddy, when does your family get here?"

"Wednesday morning and Friday afternoon" I answered.

Mom got in Wednesday, and dad got in Friday. I was incredibly thankful I was done with Finals Tuesday evening.

"You guys don't mind if my mom stays here, right?"

Manny was raised by a single parents, his mom.

"Of course not, your mom is the best" I replied.

He nodded and turned to look at Mel.

"You'll be done cleaning before Thursday, right?"

She frowned at him when he grinned.

"You could help"

He snorted.

"Excuse you, but I cleaned most of the house. I left you the room that had less of a mess. You should be thankful I moved the couch to the garage"

I took a seat and began filling my plate up with food because I was staying out of it.

"Jon's here, so he can help you"

She snorted and began putting beer bottles in a bag.

"He's pretty darn useless when he's hungover"

It's true, it's why Jon didn't really get drunk.

"What did you celebrate last night?" I asked.

Jon looked at me as he placed four gatorades on the table. He pushed forward the orange one and sat across from me.

"Getting an A on my final project"

"Nice" I said as I opened the orange gatorade.

He took a sip of his blue gatorade and yawned.

"When did you get back?"

"A half hour ago" I replied.

"Ahh, so you heard me dying in the bathroom"

I nodded earning a chuckle from him. My phone chimed and I reached over to see I had a text from Auston.

Nice win today!

I would have taken the compliment, except I didn't play today. Instead of correcting him I replied,

Thank you 😊 Congrats on your first Playoff goal last night. Happy Easter

My phone chimed again as I got two messages in my group message with William and Kasperi.

Happy Easter!

Good luck on finals!

I was honestly excited to live with those two. Kasperi had a girlfriend, and she was going to be living with us as well. I didn't mind, she seemed like a lovely person. I replied,

Good luck tomorrow

Congrats on your first playoff goal William

Your reaction on Kasperi's OT goal, that is love there #bromance

Happy Easter to you two as well.

"You can talk with our replacements later, right now let's enjoy the last bit of time we have left"

I laughed and took a bite of my spring roll

"We're all staying until our lease is done, so quit complaining"

Our lease was over at the end of May. After that, who knows when we would see each other again.
