Madeline's POV- May 2017
"I didn't think anyone was home" I said getting my mom's attention.
I walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge.
"I just got home, I had two consultations"
I nodded and placed an avocado on the counter.
"Got any plans for today?"
"Nope" I replied getting a smile from her.
I made my way over to her.
"Morning mom" I greeted.
"Good morning honey, sleep well?"
"I did" I answered.
I reached for the loaf of bread and took two slices.
"Let me make that for you"
"Mom, I can make my own avocado toast" I stated.
She put the two slices in the toaster and smiled at me.
"It's a shame we couldn't catch a Dodgers game"
"We'll catch one during the summer" I promised.
"I'm taking your word for it"
I reached for my phone and smiled when I saw I had a text from Auston.
Good morning
"The Dodgers called up their top prospect last month"
I glanced away from my phone and nodded as I replied,
It's past noon, so it's good afternoon.
"He seems to be fitting in with the team. It sucks that Toles got injured, but it's a blessing in disguise for Cody" I said.
Cody Bellinger was the current #1 prospect for the Dodgers and the goal for the team was that he one day replace Adrian Gonzalez. Cody was brought up for his MLB debut against the Giant a little less than a month ago to replace an injured Joc Pederson. The plan was for him to get some major league experience and then send him back down once Joc was better, but then Adrian got injured. His time with the Dodgers got extended, and it became permanent when Andrew Toles got injured a couple of games back. Toles would need ACL surgery, so he was out for the rest of the season.
"What's a shame is them being in Denver at the moment. He really wanted to meet you"
So he's the mystery guy she wanted to set me up with.
"He told you this?" I asked.
"No, Joc and Adrian told me"
"Some nice teammates he has" I said.
"He's quite shy, but overall he's a polite and good mannered boy"
I scrunched up my nose a bit.
"Mom, the idea of you setting me up with someone is unsettling" I admitted as she began putting the slices of avocado on my toast.
"I know, which is why I decided to give you his phone number"
I sighed as I watched her reach for her phone.
"Mom" I complained.
"Honey, his crush on you is the cutest"
I frowned
"Me and my toast are going outside" I said when I saw she had finished making my toast.
She followed me out to the backyard.
