Auston's POV- March 2017
"Are we allowed here?" I asked as I got out of the car.
I frowned at Maddy as she laughed at my question.
"I don't want to get in trouble" I defended.
"You won't, I can assure you that"
I closed the door and made my way over to her.
"What time does your flight leave?"
"Not until 6AM" I replied as I zipped up my jacket.
We had lost ever game this road trip. In the NHL, the California road trip was known to be hard. It was nice to be in Cali though, away from the cold that was Toronto. Maddy wasn't able to make it to the last game of the road trip (Anaheim) but she did drop by to pick me up. We went to get some tacos, and now here were were. It was chilly at the moment but that was because we were currently at the beach.
"What time is your game at?" I asked.
"Noon"
"Let's sit down or something. You must be tired" I said.
She simply shrugged as she followed me. We both slipped off out shoes when we reached the sand. I was exhausted, so I figured she was too. I only played one game, she played two.
"I'll get a massage tomorrow morning"
We both took a seat and I turned to her.
"How are your brothers?" I asked.
"Don't know, they haven't come to any of my games"
I didn't know what to say, so I reached over and placed my hand on her thigh.
"They'll get over it" I assured her.
She hummed and looked at me as she placed her hands over mine.
"You'd be surprised how long those two can hold a grudge"
From what I knew, she had not seen her brothers since she was last home in January.
"How are your two thesis' going?" I questioned.
It was time to change the subject. I didn't like seeing her sad.
"Quite terrible actually"
I chuckled as she shrugged.
"They're technically done, but I need to revise them at least ten times before I hand them over to my advisors"
"I still expect a copy" I reminded her.
She scrunched up her nose.
"Why do you want to read that? The topics are kinda boring"
I smiled.
"You're not boring" I told her.
"I never said I was boring"
I looked down at her lap when she grabbed my hand and squeezed it.
"You're usually the warm one"
I chuckled as she rubbed both her hands against mine in hopes to warm up my hand.
"I'm going to get a copy of your thesis papers, right?" I asked.
"You better read them"
"I look forward to discussing your papers with you" I replied.
She laughed.
"You're such a dork"
"So how's your mom?" I asked.
