Madeline's POV- June 2017

"What time are you heading out?"

"The game starts at 1:10, so I was thinking about heading out at 11:30" I replied.

It was 10AM right now, and the whole family had just gotten back from Sunday mass.

"Alright, I'll have the twins be ready by 11:15"

I nodded.

"I'm going to go change" I told her.

"What's wrong with what you're wearing?"

I raised an eyebrow as I looked at her.

"I'm not going to Dodger Stadium in a dress" I informed her as I looked down at my phone.

"It's a beautiful dress, I'm sure Cody would love to see you in it"

"Maybe another time" I called out as I walked to my room.

Once I was in my room, I set my purse on my desk and climbed up on my bed. Before I headed out, I had one thing I needed to do. I looked for Auston's contact info and took a deep breath before pressing the call button. Sitting up, I placed my phone against my ear and waited. One ring, two, three, four, fi-

"Hello"

"Hey Auston, it's Maddy" I greeted.

"Alex said you would call"

I had called Alex, Thursday night after I got home from the gala and explained what was going on in my life. After the gala was over, I hung out with Cody for a bit and it was then when he asked me out on a date. He seemed like a really caring and sincere guy, so I came clean. I told him everything, and I was a bit surprised when he told me he'd let me think his question over. My mom had taken my car back, so he dropped me off. It was as I got out of the car that I made my decision. He shut off the car and walked me to the front door. While we walked to the door, he told me that if I chose not to go on a date with him he hoped we could be friends. I kissed his cheek just as the door swung open. Mom tried to convince him to come inside, but he politely turned the offer down. Once he was gone , and I was in my room I called Alex. She was a night owl, so she answered on the third ring.

"I don't think I can be your date to the award show" I blurted out.

I came clean to Alex and told her what was going on between Auston and I. She agreed, he was being an inconsiderate dick. I told her I didn't want to ruin our friendship and after she assured me that it wouldn't I told her that I was talking with a guy. That's when the phone call turned to a FaceTime call. She could care less about Auston the minute she saw I was smiling.

"You're a nice guy" I began saying.

"You don't need to do that Maddy"

I bit my lip.

"I'm sorry I couldn't reciprocate t-

He cut me off.

"You don't need to apologize, if there's someone that should be apologizing it should be me. I could have handled that situation a little better"

I sniffled a bit.

"Are you crying?"

I was crying, like about to full on cry as well.

"You're going to make a girl incredibly happy one day" I told him.

I wiped my face and sat up.

"I just don't think it will be me" I admitted.

"It sucks I couldn't make you happy"

"We were meant to be friends" I replied.

"As long as you're happy then so am I"

I smiled.

"Thank you" I stated.

"You and Alex are good?"

"Yes, I talked with her last night" I informed him.

"So I take it you were on a date yesterday"

"I was" I confirmed.

"Hope he treats you well"

He cleared his throat.

"I have to go, I promised Bree I'd take her to the mall"

"Say hi to your family for me" I told him.

"I will...bye"

"Bye" I said before ending the call.

My phone chimed as I got a text from Alex.

Guess you have a type

I raised an eyebrow as I replied,

And that is?

She quickly replied,

Doe colored eyed white boys

I laughed and locked my phone before climbing out of bed. It was time to change and get ready. I retouched my makeup and  quickly decided to wear my Dodgers Spring training jersey with a pair of black jeans. I slipped on my white pair of converse and pulled my hair up in a ponytail. Just as I was packing my floral sleeveless blouse there was a knock on the door.

"Come in" I called out.

The door opened and Nate stepped into the room.

"You look nice" I noted.

He smiled.

"You're wearing the jersey I got you for Christmas" I said.

I got him a Kershaw jersey this past Christmas since he had outgrown his old jersey.

"Are you ready to go?"

I grabbed my purse and nodded.

"I am now, come on" I told him.

He followed me out and towards the living room where Noah was.

"Ready to go?" I asked him.

"Yes"

I nodded and turned to mom who was making her way over.

"I packed them some snacks"

I smiled and took the backpack she was handing me as the twins groaned.

"Be on your best behavior boys, please"

"Let's go" I said.

Noah was the closest to mom, so he got pulled into a hug.

"No"

She kissed his cheek and I smiled as he groaned when he let her go. They knew better than to wipe their cheek in front that would just cause her to get attacked with kisses.

"Have fun"

Nate nodded and squinted a bit as she kissed his cheek.

"Bye mom" I told her as she hugged me.

"Drive safely"

"Always do" I replied.

She kissed my cheek and rubbed my arm.

"They're going to love him, trust me"

I shushed her and adjusted my purse on my arm.

"We'll be back late, don't wait up" I called out as I pushed both twins out of the house.

"I'll feed Poppy"

"Thank you" I said as we made our way out.

Once we were in the car, I turned to Noah who was sitting in the passenger seat.

"I like your jersey" I noted.

He looked at me.

"Mom said I could have a Bellinger one for my birthday"

I bit my lip and nodded.

"Maddy, you're allowed to date Cody Bellinger. He's the only guy we will allow you to date"

I laughed as Nate agreed from the back seat.

"Well" I began to say.
