Madeline's POV- January 2017

No one was answering their calls at the moment. I had tried calling my parents at least three times and each time I got sent to voicemail. I sent them both a text asking them to call me as soon as they could. Mel and Jon were out on a date, and wouldn't be back until tomorrow night. I knew they would answer, but I didn't want to bother them. I called Alex hoping she would answer her phone, and sighed when it went straight to voicemail. I bit the inside of my cheek and looked at Auston's contact info. He had a game, so I knew he wouldn't answer his phone. Instead, I sent him a text.

Call me? When you get a chance

"Knock Knock"

I let out horrible sobbing sound when Manny opened the door. The smile on his face quickly turned into a frown.

"What's wrong?"

I opened my mouth, and instead of speaking I cried harder. He took a seat next to me and looked at the screen immediately pulling me into a hug.

"Maddy, I thought something bad happened!"

He smiled and reached for my tissue box on my desk. I let him wipe my face clean, and took the water bottle he was offering me. I took a sip and cleared my throat a bit as I composed myself.

"Come on, let's go downstairs. I'll make you a Strawberry Margarita"

He stood up and offered me his hand.

"Did you eat dinner already?"

I shook my head.

"Well neither have I, so let's order some pizza?"

I nodded and took his hand as I grabbed my phone.

"Come on now"

He pulled me up and followed me out of the room towards the living room. My phone started ringing and I looked at the screen. I answered the call and put my phone against my ear

"You have a game" I said.

Auston lightly chuckled.

"Yeah, but I managed to convince coach to let me call you"

I smiled a bit and sniffled.

"You ok?"

"Yeah" I told him.

My voice cracked a bit as I said that to him.

"You don't sound ok"

"All seven programs got back to me already" I stated.

"Yeah?"

I laughed.

"I got in" I replied.

"That's great news Mads"

I nodded and wiped my face.

"Toronto offered me a full scholarship" I choked out.

I sniffled and took the tissue that Manny offered me.

"Happy tears?"

"Yeah" I mumbled.

"So you're coming to Toronto?"

"I have to talk with my family" I answered.

"Well, let me know what your answer is. Just know that my apartment is open for you"

"Thank you Aus" I said.

"No problem"

"I should let you go now" I told him.

"Are you watching the game?"

"No, but I get updates" I replied.

"Well the game is tied, so I should get back to the team"

"You should" I agreed.

"Alright, I'll talk to you later"

"Ok, bye" I said.

I waited for him to say bye before ending the call.

"Here you go"

I smiled at Manny who placed a Margarita glass in front of me.

"Pizza is on it's way"

I nodded.

"These next few weeks are going to be interesting"

I laughed and nodded agreeing with him. Jon had been accepted to his #1 Master's program, and Mel had gotten an interview from her #1 veterinarian program.

"When do you hear back?" I asked.

"Within the next few weeks, rejection and acceptance letters will be rolling in. They're being sent home, so expect mom to call you if she can't get a hold of me"

I smiled.

"The worst is over" I told him.

Manny had been a nervous wreck this past semester. He got through the first round of admissions, sent in his secondary admissions packet, and waited for interviews. The interview process had happened, he was either interviewed alone or in a group. At the moment, he was waiting on decision letters.

"So you're moving to Toronto?"

"I don't know yet" I replied.

Manny raised an eyebrow.

"Why overthink it?"

"Well for one it's Canada" I answered.

He smiled.

"You say it like it's a bad thing"

I hummed and nodded agreeing with him. I grew up in a very liberal home, so you bet I was pissed at America (and Florida) for electing a reality TV star orangutan.

"True" I said.

Manny was raised by a single mother in Nashville, Tennessee. He left home after Florida gave him a full academic scholarship. His goal was to move back to Tennessee and go to Med School there. Vanderbilt was his top choice and there was a high chance he'd be attending there this August.

"Do you mind if I watch the game?" I asked.

He shook his head and I stood up. I turned on the TV and changed the channel to the NHL network.

"If you move to Toronto you can have Auston take you out on that second date"

He winked when I turned to look at him.

"You're not allowed to talk with Alex anymore" I said.

He laughed.

"Come on Maddy, even I admit that Auston is a good looking guy"

"I've never said he wasn't handsome" I replied.

"So why not give him the time of day?"

"He's younger" I began saying.

He rolled his eyes.

"Want to hear what I think you should do?"

I nodded and he reached for my Margarita. I watched as he took a sip and sighed before looking at me.

"Give him a chance"

He shrugged.

"I'm not saying you should do it now. You obviously have a nice relationship with him"

I glanced at the TV when I heard a goal horn. One of Auston's older teammates had untied the game.

"The guy called you during intermission, if that ain't love then I don't know what love is"

"Did you just quote cupid's chokehold?" I asked.

He grinned.

A/N: So it looks like Maddy might go to Toronto. Let me know what you think of the story! Here's five more. I'll try to post another five tomorrow, and if I do not have time then Happy Independence Day (If you're American, and if you're not Happy Tuesday).
