Auston's POV- Christmas 2016

"You can borrow it, just put gas"

I nodded and took Alex's car keys.

"I'll be back in a bit" I told her.

She smiled.

"Say hi to Maddy for me"

I chose to ignore her and made my way out. She wasn't wrong though, I was going to go see Maddy. I sent her a text asking her if she was awake, and she had yet to respond.  Just as I was turning on the car, my phone chimed. I reached for my phone and saw Maddy had replied,

I've been up for the past half hour. I got two little sisters, remember. What's up?

She was being incredibly straight forward, and it was honestly scaring me. I know I had messed up, but she forgave me assuring that all was forgotten. We didn't get any alone time yesterday, and I wanted to make sure we were good. I tried to talk with her after last night's game, but they had left early. Her sister had a bed time, so it was a valid excuse.

I decided to call her instead of texting back.

"Good morning Auston"

I smiled when I heard Christmas music in the background

"Morning" I greeted.

"To what do I owe this call?"

"I'm actually on my way to pick you up" I replied.

She hummed.

"What makes you think I'd get into a car with you?"

"Are you going to make me beg?" I wondered.

"I'll change"

"What's wrong with what you have on?" I asked.

"I would never be seen out with the shorts I'm wearing"

I knew what pair of shorts she was talking about. She wore them during her stay in Toronto, and they were incredibly short. Her butt didn't show, but they made her legs look endless.

"It is pretty chilly outside" I told her.

"Oh you know I don't mind the cold"

"I feel like you handle the cold better than me" I noted.

"And you lived in Michigan, and currently live in Toronto"

"It's the Arizona boy in me" I defended.

I smiled as I got her to laugh.

"You play on ice for a living"

"And you under the sun" I shot back

"Which is why I'm used to a little heat"

"I can handle the cold, it's just hard to dress for it" I stated.

"Is your mom not dressing you anymore?"

I rolled my eyes.

"It was once" I whined.

"I can tell you're dressing yourself"

"Do I have a good sense of fashion?" I asked.

She hummed.

"I sense an insult in that hum" I replied.

"You take it the way you want"

"I'll be there in 10" I told her.

"See you then"

Two beeps were heard as she ended the call.  The drive was quick considering no one was out because it was Christmas morning. Just as I was about to call Maddy to let her know I was here, I saw her making her way over. Her hair was up in a messy bun, and she was wearing a blue hoodie that had GATORS Softball printed on it. She was wearing a pair of fitted joggers and blue running shoes. As she got closer I noted she was holding a plastic container.
