He blinked at me, registering everything I said. I meant every word. I told the truth. His eyes finally looked into mine. We were seated closer now. He reached out to touch my ash blonde hair and tucked a lock behind my ear before sighing.

"I'm sorry." He said. "I'm sorry all of this happened to you. You did lie, but you were just scared it'd put me in danger. I promise you, that won't happen. And I promise that I will protect you." He said, surprising me. "It wasn't your fault, what happened with his wife. Ex wife. You did what you had to do. It's his fault for not taking it like a man. He's insane, Peyton. He chose to kill all of those people. And once he's caught, he will pay for everything he did."

He squeezed my hands to comfort me. "And you won't have to see me less and less. You'll see me more and more." He smiled to cheer me up. "I forgive you. Just never lie to me like that again, Peyton Riley James."

I smiled and I hugged him. He gladly accepted the hug, I didn't have to make him this time. "Thank you." I said through my tears. "Thank you so much, Lucian."

"Right now, anything for you." He promised. At that moment, I knew I'd feel different about him. I'd act different around him. I liked the feeling I got, and I knew exactly what thought I felt. I knew that name for it, though I was too old to use the name. But I used it anyway.

I think I have a crush on Lucian Montenegro.

Relax. I said I think I do. Maybe it's just the heat of the moment, but in this moment I had a crush on my boss.

We pulled away and he wiped my tears before looking at his watch. I looked at mine and it said 1:46 pm. "We should get inside." He said, standing up. I nodded and walked back to the house with him.

"Can we go upstairs? I have something else to tell you." I said as we stopped on the foyer. He nodded and that's what we did.

We went upstairs into our room and he closed the door. "What is it?"

"Have you ever noticed men in suits around us?"

He pursed his lips. "There are always men in suits around us, they work for me."

I rolled my eyes. "Not those men! Have you ever noticed people following you whenever I'm with you? Men in black with sunglasses? Or a black van parked near your house or at Monte L?"

He thought hard. "I think so. I've seen a black van near my house. Why?"

"Those are my FBI agent bodyguards. They follow me everywhere, and they live in the apartment below me. There are guards for Josh too, because he's known my secret since we first became friends. And you remember Trevor Morgan, the guy who claims to love me and I told you to hide from him?" He rolled his eyes at Trevor's name. I guess he remembers. "He's one of my bodyguards. We dated for two years while he guarded but he cheated on me last year."

"You had bad taste in men, no offense."

"I know I do. That's why when you asked me if I was dating Josh, I laughed at you. I was and I still am on a 'one night stands' only diet. I do not need a boyfriend right now." I chuckled at the idea.

He narrowed his eyes at me for a second and looked at me weirdly. "Then it wouldn't make sense to not sleep with me now. If you don't want a boyfriend, you'd have no issues with me because one: I am not boyfriend material. Two: I don't want a girlfriend. So just give in now and we can go to bed peacefully." He smirked.
