"Dean R. Wolfe, by the unanimous decision of the jury and my overall ruling as a judge in the United States Federal court system, you've hereby been found guilty for the mass murders of 43 innocents, the attempted murder of Noemi "Peyton" Montenegro, the assaults with a deadly weapon of Lucian Montenegro and Trevor Morgan, and the murder of Jesse Levitt. Your sentence: execution by chair in 120 days." The loud whack of the gavel startled me, I had been waiting to hear those words for a long time.It was over, it was finally over. When I stepped foot out of this hellish room, I was free. Everyone behind me briefly cheered, but I just turned to Lucian and cried into his shoulder. He hugged me tight in his arms, kissing my head repeatedly. I guess he was relieved too, for my sake, maybe.
Eventually I calmed myself, and I watched as they escorted a shackled Dean out of the courtroom. He was scowling at me, like he could've murdered me then and there if he wasn't so restrained. But I could see the fear in his eyes. He didn't want to die, especially by electrocution. But he knew that he shouldn't have hurt and killed all those people, just to get to me. He was wrong. Hopefully awaiting his sentence to take place made him realize that.
We were heading down the outside courthouse stairs, I kept a grasp onto Lucian's supporting arm, when suddenly my lower region of my belly just completely contracted into a cramping sort of horrendous feeling. I stopped in my tracks, which almost made me fall over, and I moaned loudly with pain as I clutched at the area of intense ache. Rosa, please, not today! "Stop, stop for a second!" People near us looked over in alarm, and Lucian placed a hand on my belly and I swear he'd hadn't been so worried about me in a long time. "What's wrong?"
"I'm...I'm getting contractions..." I gritted my teeth at him, feeling a cold sweat just take over my body. "Do you want me to—"
"No, just...just keep going. W-Wait it out." I step forward, pushing him to continue helping me down to even ground. My grip on his bicep tightened, but I guess since he's so big and strong, it didn't hurt at all. We made it to the car, Lucian opened the door and helped me inside, before climbing in himself.
"Are you sure you're alright?" He asked after nervously fidgeting with his wedding band for a few minutes. I rubbed my tummy as the contractions didn't last very long, thank God. It just kinda felt like a slight little lingering cramp now. "Yeah, I'm good now. If it happens again, don't worry much, I don't care as long as it's not my water breaking."
He glanced downward at Rosalina, and his lips quirked into a small little grin that only lasted for a second. "Good,"
Baby, it's too late to be making that face. "Lucian on a scale of one to ten, how ready are you for Rosa?"
He pursed his lips. "Five."
I sighed, I could hear his faith withering away by his dried tone. I cradled my belly as I briefly stood in a hunch to move over to him. He pulled me onto his lap, without a single grunt. "I'm going to crush your legs."
"You're not even heavy, don't say that." He had a lot on his mind, I could see it in his eyes, his face, hear it in his voice. I placed his hand on my bump and he kept his eyes there. "I love you, Lucian. Do you know why?"
He chuckled. "If we're six months into our marriage, than I'd think so."
"Well in case you've impossibly forgotten," I lifted his chin to gaze into his eyes, "let me refresh your memory. I love you because you're always there. When I pushed you away, you never stopped caring. When I was so caught up, lost in fear, and worry, you helped me through it regardless—now I know you can do that for our daughter. As long as you're the amazing man you are, and you try to love her with all you've got, she'll love you, and you'll be more than fine, more than a good father, I promise." His brows drew together, just for a moment, but his face softened and he kissed me gently.
