"Luciaaan, he's my husbaaaand, and I love hiiiiiiimm," I sang loudly after the heap of comfortable silence in the car. "And I'm pregnaaaannt, with his chiiiiilld, and I can't button up my jeeeeaaans, but I still love hiiiim. And he neeeeds to drive meeee to the maaaall, because his wife is pregnaaaannt, and her clothes will not fit well anymooore." He grabbed my hand as if to shush me. "I will get you maternity clothes,"

"Thaaank yooouu. And not the ugly maternity clothes that make me look like I'm 36 and lonely with three children, because I'm a 24 year old with a loving husband and my first child on the way. Actually, I can design my own clothes, I'm good." I shrugged, my lips pinched together. When I mentioned designing my own clothes, he grinned mischievously. "No, I'll take you to an upscale place, you can get whatever you want."

"Okay. Weirdo. I just want to see the little fetus, hear the heartbeat, go show the ultrasound photo to our parents, and go to my main country so I can spend good, uninterrupted, quality time with my new husband—" I then felt something flick my lower stomach and my jeans come undone, as Lucian looked at me with alarm. "Goddammit!"

My jean button had popped off, flying forward and hitting the windshield, like a dramatic son of a bitch. Lucian burst into sudden laughter but I pouted. "Lucian, it's not funny! Now I can't wear these!"

He eventually caught his breath, but still chuckled over the fact that my jeans can't even stand my littlest bit of weight gain. I've been the same size since age 16, it's just my boobs that have grown. "Would you like me to turn the car around, sweetheart?"

"No, all I own are high waisted jeans and skirts and they're not going to fit either!" Then I began to feel like crying, so I lifted my feet into the seat and curled into a ball against the passenger door. "Then we can stop somewhere and get you a new pair of jeans, and then after the appointment I'll take you back so you can get some more. That sound good? We'll make it before twelve." He outstretched his large hand to rub my knee assuringly, I shifted my pursed lips to one side of my face. "Okay."

So he stopped by an Old Navy outlet and got me a pair of low rise blue jeans that were an entire size bigger than my usual small size, and they fit me. I also happened to find the cutest little newborn onesie with teddy bears on it and I insisted that we get it even though I've barely even left my first trimester.

Getting to our appointment, Lucian had me go into the room first because he had to take a work call that he very much didn't want to take. In fact, he cursed that person out in Spanish for a good minute, and I knew I'd have to scold him about being mean to his employees later.

"Hey, Mrs. Montenegro," Dr. Hannah walked in, her shiny platinum blonde hair bouncing behind her as her heels clicked on the floor. "How are we today, everything feel okay pregnancy wise?"

"Yup," I grinned, kicking my legs since my feet couldn't touch the floor in the patient chair. I was here about five weeks ago, we talked about everything that was going to happen today, so I was prepared. I was already in a gown, and I had to be in a gown for my ultrasound because my uterus hasn't grown out of my pelvis yet and they have to insert a...you know what, TMI.

She giggled as she pulled on some gloves and readied her equipment, turning on monitors and lights. "You have that post-wedding glow on you, that's good. You excited for your honeymoon? Lay down, please." I did as she said and lifted my knees to prop up my legs.

"Absolutely, we're going to one of the most gorgeous beaches in Ireland in a big ole beach house in Kerry, right near Derrynane beach, and then we're taking a nostalgic road trip all the way to the Giant's Causeway because we want to explore. Christ, that's cold," I scrunched my face in dislike, feeling that super freezing cold probe enter me. She pulled my gown over my knees to cover me.
