Lily's P.O.V
Ah. I let out a sigh of relaxation as I awaited my letter that would contain all the information for my last year of Hogwarts. 6 years had gone! This year would be my last year. The year I took my NEWTs. The year I would have to think about jobs. The last year I would leave for Hogwarts on platform 9 3/4.'Lily! Your breakfast is getting cold!' My mother shouted bring me out of my deep thought. Half running down the stairs I walked to the kitchen and sat down anxiously. I hope I'm Head Girl, pleeease let me be Head Girl.
Almost immediately after a grey owl came swooping in through the window, dropping my letter in front of me, and sweeping graciously out the window on the opposite side of the room. Oh my Merlin! This was it. Okay okay just relax. Who cares if you didn't get it no need to be upset. Opening the letter hastily my parents say either side of my watching hopefully while Petunia sat opposite me not paying attention.
'Yes! I got it! Mum, Dad I got it I'm head girl!' Beaming they both hugged me tightly.
'That's great sweetheart.' Mum praised me.
'Although not a surprise. Always knew you would get it' My dad said in a matter of factly tone.
'Oh yes we're all very proud our favourite freak got to be Head Girl.' Petunia said sarcastically. I was used to snide comments like this from Petunia, however when ever she does make them it still hurts. I mean, she still my sister.
'Petunia!' my parents did simultaneously
'We've had enough of this, you and your sister are both extremely hard working and you should not be discriminating her that way.' my mum finished in slight disappointment.
'Fine. Sorry. Won't happen again.' she said idly picking up her newspaper absentmindedly turning the pages.
'It's fine.' I said and put a small smile over my face.
One week later
Mary, Alice, Marlene and I and set off for Diagon Alley to get our new school things and look around a bit.
Me and my friends were all different. Similar in personality but our appearances couldn't be more different. Mary Macdonald had always had long, light mousy-brown hair and chestnut eyes. Marlene McKinnon had shiny dirty blonde hair with beautiful grey eyes. Alice Fortescue had always had short brown hair and chestnut eyes, like Mary. Alice had a huge crush on Frank Longbottom! Frank was a smart wizard and was also harbouring a crush for Alice but they'd always been afraid to ask the other one out. I however had emerald green eyes and red hair.'Oh my goodness! Lily come look at this.' Mary gestured me towards a new set of charms books labelled 'Merlin's Greatest Achievements and Remarkable Creations'.
'Oh! I've been waiting for these to come back in stock for ages!'
'You should get one as long as I can borrow it!' she said hopefully
'Oh, I would but I only bought enough money for my school books, 9 galleons 5 knuts.' I said suddenly a little annoyed
'Well I'd be happy to pitch in, for something in return of course.' I flinched at the voice I knew all too well. Potter.
'What do you want Potter? And before you say 'to pitch in' again I would just like to make it abundantly clear I do not want your money nor do I want your presence.' I said quickly and very irritably.
'Ouch. That hurts Evans.' he said putting a hand to his chest with an expression of mock hurt on his face
'I'm still waiting for an answer. Why are you here?' I say crossing my arms.
'Well if you must know, I came to get my new school supplies when I happened to bump into my favourite red head and her friends.' he said smirking. Ugh, that smirk, that annoying, cocky smirk.
'And we felt the need to say hello.' said another voice coming from behind Potter that happened to be none other than Sirius Black. Potter and Black, the pranksters of Hogwarts, attached at the hip, causing mischief wherever they went, the Marauders.
'What a pleasant surprise.' Marlene interjected
'We live to please.' Sirius winked at Marlene as red blush began to flush her cheeks.
'James, Sirius are you- oh hi Lily, Mary, Marlene, Alice.' Remus suddenly came bounding out of nowhere flustered and breathing heavily and smiling. Remus may be the only decent marauder. Although he did sometimes participate in the pranks he didn't approve of misbehaviour or bullying. Remus was nice and we were friends, his regular crowd was still the marauders nevertheless.
'We're done here, just saying hello.' Potter tapped Sirius on the shoulder and made a slight gesture as to say they were leaving and Sirius, seeming to forget himself, smiled sheepishly at Marlene before realising and turning away quickly. Potter turned back one more time to wink at me and although I detested him my stomach began to spurt butterflies and his black messy hair went out of sight.
'Lily? You okay?' Alice waved a hand in front of my have and I blinked before answering
'Yes. Why wouldn't I be?'
'Well you were kind of staring into space when James winked at you.' Mary said the corners of her mouth slightly turned upwards .
'What are you talking about. Your being ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous the implication I would even waste precious time thinking about that arrogant arse Potter and his messy black hair, hazel eyes and cocky way he walks is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous!'
Rambling. I always ramble when I'm nervous and for some reason Potter now made me nervous. They were all smirking at me and I knew what they were getting at.
'Don't even think about it.' Never in a million years would I even be civil with Potter let alone be interested in him. No, I just wouldn't. Would I? No, no I wouldn't.
'Come on. I want to get some Fizzing Whizzbees.' I said trying to change the subject. As we walked I could hear them whispering frantically behind my back. All the way to Honeydukes, I for some reason couldn't get him out of my mind. Potter.
