Chapter 22 - Dances and Dates

James P.O.V

Lily is so warm. She just gives off this radiant glow when she's happy and she just gives you that warm feeling that makes you smile. Eventually I walk off to the Great Hall. I asked Lily to come but she said she would catch up soon. So I scrambled through the portrait.

But yes, Lily just makes me feel really warm inside.
Oh Merlin, I'm starting to sound like Marlene.

It's all Sirius' fault he started going out with her!

Speaking of which, 'Oi! Padfoot.'

'What's wrong Jamsie?' He replies smirking.

'Don't call me that you dog, anyway I need to talk about-- the homework' I was going to say The Yule Ball, but Lily always has impeccable timing.

'Hi! I'm starving can we please go?' Lily says.

'Yeah, and Prongs ask Lily about the homework you know I'm hopeless!' Sirius says and I roll my eyes.

'Almost the Yule Ball!' Marlene says as we sit down and I don't think I've ever been more thankful for Marlene being here.

'Oh yeah, who's taking you Lily?' I ask trying to sound casual.

'Nobody yet,' she says carelessly 'Any ideas who you'd like to take?' She asks me.

'What makes you think I don't already have a date?' I ask.

'Because I know you don't.' She says smugly.

Erm excuse me, I'm James freaking Potter I could take anybody I wanted!

'I already know who I'm taking.' Marlene says with Sirius' arm draped over her shoulder while she smiles. Those two are practically inseparable.

Marlene McKinnon; the girl who tamed Sirius Black.

He used to be Hogwarts biggest player and now he's stuck with one girl for months. I think Marlene and Sirius will be together for a long time.

'Moony, who are you taking?' I ask Remus as he constantly glances over at the Ravenclaw table. I look back and the only person I can see within Remus line of vision is Jennifer.

'Nobody.' He says laughing and playing with the food on his plate.

'If it's Jennifer it's fine.' I say smiling. Remus is a loyal friend, if he thought I ever actually liked or still liked Jennifer he'd never go for her. But I haven't and don't so if Remus has a chance at being happy I want him to take it.

'What?' He looks up pretending to look clueless but nervous.

'Moony! Listen to me! If you like Jennifer, it is fine I promise!' I say laughing.

I notice Lily isn't taking much part in the conversation and ever since the topic of Jennifer came up she looks kind of uncomfortable.

'Hey Lily.' I say and she looks up smiling half-heartedly.

'Yes James?' She says pushing her good away from her.

'We're Heads and we don't have dates yet and it would set a good example if we went together yes?' I say hopefully.

'Yes I think it would.' She says smiling.

I catch a glimpse of Sirius' and Marlene's smirk but ignore them as I look into Lily's eyes. They're gorgeous.

Lily's P.O.V

'OK!' Marlene shouts as we walk into my common room.

'I know!' I shout back excitedly.

'Ahhhhh!' Mary and Alice both shout.

'OK! Did James just basically ask you to the Yule Ball?!' Marlene shouts.

I'm too happy and excited to answer so I just jump around frantically and scream with them.

'So this is going to mean a lot of preparation! Trips to Hogsmeade, dress orders, makeovers, hair styles. Oh it's so exciting!' Alice says. I think she's more excited than me! Then again Frank did, finally, ask her so I'm happy for her.

And Marlene but Mary seems a bit down.

'Mary? What's wrong?' I ask and we all sit down on the plush, crimson coloured couch.

'It's just, I really wanted Remus to ask me but he likes Jennifer, so you know if he's happy then that's what's important.' She says but I can see her eyes glistening.

'No! No! She had James and ruined whatever chance I had with him at the time, she's not taking Remus too. And plus Remus deserves someone better! Someone like you! Smart, beautiful, funny, witty and just someone who can make him smile the way he did on the train ride here this year. Because he honestly looked like he could had stayed there with you forever.' I finish and all the comfort and reassurance must have done some good because Mary is smiling.

'I love you all. I don't know what I'd do without you.' She says and we all end up in a huge hug.

Snapes P.O.V

'Malfoy!' I shout and the dungeon echoes slightly.

'What do you want Snape?' He says uninterested.

'I have a plan.' I say lowing my voice.

'I'm not getting caught again!' He says whisper-shouting. The brief moment after he speaks leaves my mind back the images that I had when we ambushed Potter and Lily got hit by my curse.

That was the worst day of my life. Lily could of died and I ran away from a coward and left her there with Potter. Potter! Who can't even afford to buy a dictionary to research the word 'humble' or 'modesty'.

The whole thing was so horrific I thought for a moment it wasn't her blood it was just her hair sprawled across the stone floor and she'd tripped over and I was going to help her.

Until Malfoy started to grab me and shout at me to run while Potter shouted hysterically 'What did you do?!'.

The whole ordeal was traumatic. But why him? Why would Lily settle for him of all people? I thought she hated him!

'We won't. Not this time.' I say my black eyes so dark they could burn a whole through Malfoy if I wanted to.

'Well? What is it then?' He hisses scanning the room for eavesdroppers.

'Let's go somewhere a little bit more private.' I say and drag Malfoy to talk about my plan. The plan for the Yule Ball.

A/N this chapter was shorter than usual but mainly because I do have this whole thing planned out so it's hard to know how much to put in to one chapter. I don't want to give too much away but things are about to get very interesting for some characters so prepare for some long chapters.
