Chapter 28 - Something Surprising

James' POV

'We're not letting them perform.' I say firmly.

'PLEASE! They're really good, if you just let them—' Lily pleads relentlessly. Don't get me wrong I love her and everything but she can be so stubborn sometimes!

'No, they're weird.' I say passively.

'Well they're called the Weird Sisters. C'mon James just give them a chance, they do have very good material, I really think everyone will like the music.' Lily says flashing that cute smile that she knows I can't resist. Merlin this Witch is something else.

'OK. Fine but,' I say before she interrupts, 'If the Ravenclaws start falling asleep, the Gryffindors head off to bed early, the Hufflepuffs are to polite to let it show that they're bored out of their minds and the Slytherins start hexing them, it's on you Lily Evans.' I finish sternly, but then smile, making Lily throw her arms around me.

'Thank you!' She says continuously before kissing me deeply.

Lily's kisses clear any doubt from my head, in fact they clear anything from my head. When I'm around her she is all I think about. She'll be the death of me.

At least Padfoot can't tease me about it anymore - Marlene's got him tamed. Which I knew would happen sooner or later I just never thought it would be a girl madder than he is. There's been some progress with Mary and Remus but they're both quite shy, bless them. Merlins beard I'm even starting to speak like Lil. She really has changed me for the better.

Speaking of friends though, I haven't seen much of Peter lately. Wonder what he could be up to because he can't be studying. Where could be possibly be all the time?

'What are you thinking about?' Lily asks me and I snap out of my deep thought.

'Peter,' Lily looks at me urging me to continue, 'He's been distant with us lately. I just hope the Yule Ball is a chance for us all to reconnect.' I say, hopeful.

'Peter has been one of your best friends since first year, some friends drift from time to time but you both have so much history and friendship, Remus, Sirius and you care about Peter too much. You'll come back together eventually. You just have to let it happen naturally, nothing ever works when it's forced. Whatever's going on with Peter all you can do is let him talk when he's ready and be there for him. When the times right it'll work out.' Lily's advice is the best. Because she understands me, she knows me best and knows how I think. I love her so much, without her I don't know what I would do or where I would be.

'C'mon, we have to get to a last minute meeting.' Lily smiles and drags me up onto my feet.

'Why do we have to go again?' I whine.

'Because we're the Heads.' Lily laughs.

We walk to the meeting and a cluster of Gryffindors, Ravenclaws, Hufflepuffs and Slytherins socialise and talk and they all turn quite when we walk in, except for the Slytherins, clearly being intentionally disrespectful.

'Excuse me.' Lily says at a normal tone. Lily's polite demeanour has no effect on the likes of Lucius Malloy or Narcissa Black and their cronies.

'Oi,' I say bluntly, 'shut up.' The Slytherins roll their eyes and cross their arms and proceed to look moody and arrogant as the Gryffindors smirk.

'So,' Lily tries to diffuse the tension, 'the Yule Ball is coming up very soon. And we're trusted with making sure everything is perfect—' Lily was about continue before she was cut off again by Narcissa.

'Well we don't have much chance of that if you're in charge do we?' The Slytherins snickered and my blood boiled.

'If it's that big of an issue you can all drag your arses up to Dumbledores office and tell him you think you'd be better suited for the job,' The room was filled a uncomfortable tension as surprise took over Narcissa's face. 'What? Do you need me to right it down for as well?' The same tension filled the room again, except I hadn't realised it was there until I was done reprimanding Narcissa.
