Lily's P.O.V
Crap. Crap. Crap. Crap
Of all the questions he had to ask me that one! I couldn't focus on what would be a good lie to hide the real answer I was debating on giving. But there was no good answer in this situation. And any it's not like I would be able to lie; Lisa is here and the moment I say anything the whole of Hogwarts will know the person I said was my first kiss will here it, and tell them I was lying. And I couldn't tell them it was a muggle because that would only lead to more questions.
'Oh look the rain has stopped should we go walk around?' I said standing up desperately trying to get out of this situation.
'N-n-n-n-no.' Sirius and Marlene said in unison pulling me to sit down looking highly amused.
'C'mon Lily, it can't be that bad.' Marlene raised an eyebrow at me, urging me to tell her.
'No, I'm not saying.' No way in hell was I going to tell them. Good, I don't have to lie if I don't give an answer.
'Oh come on Lily, we won't judge.' Lisa said smiling sweetly and wrapping James' arm around her shoulder and giggling. Ugh.
'No.' I said stubbornly.
'Oh come on Lily! Pleeeeeaase.' Marlene said shaking my arm playfully.
'Why does it matter so much?' I said tiredly.
'Because we want to know the first person to kiss the Virgin Mary!' Marlene said sitting up straight.
Was the truth that bad? I mean it was one kiss. And it wasn't even me who initiated it. And I told her him straight after that I didn't like him. Plus we don't even speak anymore.
'Ugh. If I tell you, you promise it does not leave this table.' Everyone nodded and leaned forward intriguingly.
I hesitated before I let the name stumble out of my mouth.
'Snape.'
Everyone's mouth dropped but no sound came out. Not even a gasp. Everyone stayed silent not even noticing the awkwardness surfacing among the atmosphere surrounding us.
'Snape?!' James who had stayed silent after asking me the question about my first kiss finally spoke, his voice enlaced with rage and disgust.
'Yes.' I said slumping back into the booth.
'Wha-when-w-why?!' James said extremely flustered.
'It was fourth year in the summer. We were sitting by the lake near my house and the sun was going down and I said it all looked beautiful, he said I looked prettier than all of it put together, I turned to smile at him an-'
'You couldn't resist, the way his greasy hair feel over his crooked nose and couldn't control yourself.' James cut in standing up.
'No James it wasn't-'
'Oh Merlin she's still going.' James said using one hand to cover his ear and the other to pull Lisa up to leave.
'James where are-' I tried to ask him.
'Nope!' He said dragging an excited Lisa out of the Three Broomsticks.
'Unbelievable!' I said thinking about unreasonable James had just handled that.
'Well...' Marlene said cringing.
'You did just tell him you kissed his arch enemy.' Sirius finished.
'And, no offence Lils, but it's Snape.' Marlene added with an apologetic look on her face.
'Yeah, it's pretty repulsive.' Sirius agreed.
'Wow! That's a nine letter word you just used!' I commented with a tone of mock surprise and praise.
'Hey! Don't be mean Lily, he hasn't done anything.' Marlene said defending Sirius.
'No she's right.' Sirius said waving his hand at her.
'No she's not! Just because her first kiss was a mistake doesn't mean-'
'I'm not in the mood. I'm going back to Hogwarts.' I said walking out into the street.
I followed the shortcut towards the carriages and instantly regretted as I saw James walking with Lisa, smiling and laughing as they shared a chocolate frog.
'No, I want it.' James said playfully holding the chocolate frog card out it Lisa's reach as she jumped to get it.
I realised it was only them and me walking down the empty road and slid behind a corner making sure not to be seen.
'No! James-' she did laughing and jumped again but knocked them both off balance and James slipped over and she landed on top of him. She hesitated for moment before they began to kiss and my eyes watered. I walked back along the track the long way to the carriages and climbed into one alone and thought of nothing but what had just happened as the carriage went back to Hogwarts.

A week had passed and James was still avoiding me. He ignored me whenever possible and so did all of the other Marauders. I don't know why they insisted on Sirius acting as though I don't exist and Remus taking an obvious icy tone whenever we spoke and Peter, well no one really saw much of Peter anymore. He was becoming strangely withdrawn from all his friends lately but no one ever questioned why. Still there was one thing I knew for sure; James' and Lisa's relationship seemed to be becoming more and more genuine. I know that sounds strange like, why wouldn't it have been in the first place, but it just seemed like James is enjoying it more. He was happy. Without me.
'Lily, mails here.' Alice said pointing at the swarm of owls now swooping into the Great Hall.
'Daily Prophet, Daily Prophet.' Marlene droned on evidently bored.
'Wow' Mary said with a mixture of sadness and shock 'three attacks each on muggle homes and on the parents of some Muggle-borns.'
'Guess Moldy-Voldy and his death eaters are getting serious' I commented spitefully.
'Who were the attacks on?' Marlene said.
'The Muggle-borns who's families were attacked are the Mootes, the Delphs and the Ev--' Mary stopped abruptly and kept her eyes fixed on the paper. I looked at her curiously and at the same moment a letter dropped in front of me. I turned it over to see it sealed with red wax the Ministry of Magics signature print.
I opened it nervously but quickly. I read the first few lines and I didn't know what I was feeling. I thought my whole world would crash around me or I would feel dead or time would stop and I would wake up and his as a dream. It all felt so surreal and dropped the paper and walked dead-faced, fresh tears stirring in my eyes to common room where I crawled under the covers. I couldn't cry, I couldn't even find the strength to move, I didn't know how to feel anything anymore.
Marlene's P.O.V
'What?' Lily walked away and it was as though all voices were being blocked out from her ears as we shouted after she curiously. I picked up the piece of paper she had dropped .
'No! Marlene that's Lily's private mail!' Mary said disapprovingly.
'I don't care, she's my best friend if I'm going to help her I'm not going to make her tell me what's wrong!' I said. My eyes scanned down the paper and I dropped it as quickly as Lily had and ran to her common room.
The last line of the of the letter still burning bright in my mind 'Again our deepest condolences for the loss of your parents Miss Evans, Sincerely The Department of Magical Catastrophes' oh Lily.
