Leaving Them Behind

23 days until I go mad.

"So what are you gonna do?' Ponyhead asks.

"I don't know," I sigh, "but I do know I'm running out of time. We need to make a plan, and we need to make one soon. What am I gonna-"

"What do you mean you haven't gotten the wand back!?!" I overhear Moon arguing with someone.

"I gotta go," I explain, "this may involve Comet."

"Sure thing B-fly," Ponyhead grins, "be careful."

"I will. See ya Ponyhead."

"See ya Star."

I sneak next to the doorway, just outside of the room where Moon is arguing with someone. I catch a glimpse of her cheek, which isn't glowing at the moment.

"I'm sorry," Henious's voice projects from out of sight, "but someone keeps killing my automatons. They're using the wand. Maybe a friend of his. After all, he did die when my old school blew sky high, but his corpse, for all we know, is still on Earth.

I hear Moon begin to cry, an ad tears dripping at her feet, "I just want to do one thing right for my son. I want him to be buried here. On Mewni. I want his chapter in the Book of Kings to at least say that."

The glowing returns and Moon stops crying. She returns to her stern, almost angry tone, "what about the prince I told you to get?"

"That prince won't be an issue much longer," Henious chuckles, "but what the wand, book, and Comet's remains?"

"I'm sending the royal guard to retrieve them," Moon smiles, "and this time, whoever the human with the wand is won't be able to stop us."

But if those guards see Comet...

Quickly, I dash back to my room and call Comet. I have to warn him! He has to run! I can't let Moon learn the truth! She'll kill him!

...

And I am NOT losing my brother.

Marcie, Johnson, and I sit at the burrito stand, enjoying a meal and the sunny day.

"So then I said," Johnson finishes his story, "well that's how we do it on the coast."

"That's hilarious!" Marcie exclaims, laughing loudly as she sits next to Johnson. I think about my dream a week ago and feel an odd brew of emotions within me. Is it jealousy? Anger? What am I feeling? I mean, it was just a dream, right?

"Anyways," Johnson gets up, "I gotta go. See you guys later."

"See ya," Marcie waves goodbye. I give a friendly nod.

"You OK?" Marcie asks.

I pour cinnamon on my burrito, because who's gonna stop me? "What do you mean?" I inquire.

"You've got a bit ago a green glow," Marcie looks at me with concern.

It's only then I notice the green glow. It's faint and weak, hardly even noticeable. What even caused it this time?

"Oh," I reply, "that. I'm fine. I don't even know how this one happened."

"Should you, like, get that checked? I mean, green is bad, right?"

"I understand where you're coming from since you don't know Mewmen biology, but it's emotional, not physical. It's not like I'm sick."

"That's fair."

The green glow fades as I finish my burrito. Then, my mirror rings with a call from Star.

"It's Star," I explain, "I gotta take this."

"I'm glad you two are getting along," Marcie smiles.

"Eh," I shrug, "I don't really like her as much as I don't hate her anymore. Anyways, I'll be right back."

I leave my scissors on the table and head around the corner to speak to Star.

"Hey Star," I greet.

"Comet!" Star exclaims, her face one of panic and concern, "you have to leave Earth right now!"

"What?" I ask, shocked.

"Moon's sending Mewmen guards to get the wand, book, and your corpse. You have to move!"

"What about Marcie?" I ask, "and mom and dad?"

"I dunno. Look, just call me when you're ready. I'll come pick you up and help you get to the Underworld. You got your scissors?"

"No."

"OK. Give me a ring when you're ready."

"Sure thing."

I hang up. I look back at Marcie, thinking. If I get her or anyone else involved, they'll get hurt or worry. I just need to get home, get the book, and call...

No. I'm not going to the Underworld. After that fight me and Tiffany had, that's the last place I want to be. I guess I just have to leave Echo Creek. I mean, that's where the Mewmens are gonna be looking. If I can just get my book and skip town, I'll be good. Besides, it's better like that for the Diazs and my freinds. If I told them what's going on, they'd get hurt trying to stop the Mewmens. It's time for me to go back to my life before I left Mewni. Alone and fending for myself. A starving prince. How ironic that phrase is, me, royalty, forced to fight for my rightful throne.

I dash towards the house, sneaking past Marcie so she doesn't see me. I use my wand to propel myself into my window and grab my book. Then, I prepare to leave, but a photo catches my eye.

The photo is in a redwood frame, and taken recently. It's of the party. It's of me and Marcie together. Jim took it cause he said, "it was a cute moment." I don't entirely see what he means by that, but I didn't ask. The photo shows me and Marcie standing together, laughing and enjoying ourselves.

I stop for a moment and think about what I'm leaving behind. I should at least leave a note or something. I conjure a pencil from my wand in my hand and grab a sheet of paper from a desk in the left corner and write a short note before jumping out the window to start my life on the run...
