Calzones

I wake up, like the last few nights, I'm holding the photo. I don't remember falling asleep, I just remember crying, then, waking up. I really hate this place.

I exit my room, a green glow in my cheeks as I enter the main hallway. I see Moon sitting on her throne, her glow not present. She looks at River's throne with a sense of longing. Why isn't she glowing? Something's off here.

"Star," she sighs, "I need to ask you something."

"What is it?" I ask.

"Have you ever hurt someone you loved?" Moon sighs, "ever done something, you can never come back from?"

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"I hurt everyone," Moon sighs, "all because of this stupid curse, I killed my son, my husband left me, and you... I made you end up like me. I... I..."

Moon's glow returns, and she finishes, "regret nothing. Let this be a lesson to you Star, in the end, we are cursed, and all that matters is power."

Not surpised. This is why she has to die.

"I know," I choke out the lie, "anyways, I'm headed out. See ya later."

"See ya Star," Moon smiles with her green glow.

I head outside and meet Riley who's coming into the castle as per usual.

"Hey Comet," she greets, "what are you doing outside the castle?"

"I dunno," I shrug, "I guess just sick of being in there. I'm heading out. Wanna come?"

"Sure," Riley smiles, "you eat breakfast yet?"

"Not yet," I reply.

"Come with me," Riley smiles, "I know this place that has the best calzones ever."

We start towards town, the sun warm on my face. I think about Earth. How good I had it there. I wish I could go back, but first, I must stop Moon. If not for myself at least, then for Star. If she finds out, she may go after her. I can't have that.

"So what's up with this calzone place?" I ask.

"Oh," Riley smiles, "it's a pretty cool place. The calzones tell you how you're gonna die."

"Are they absolute?" I ask.

"They tell your most likely death at the moment," Riley explains, "they can, however, be prevented. Could be good to know, yknow? In case Moon's gonna kill you in the near future, we'll be ready."

"Sounds like a plan," I reply as the stand comes into view.

"You do anything for fun?" Riley asks, "any hobbies?"

"I did have some back on Earth," I sigh, "but here I just focus on staying alive. It's so hard. Sometimes I just hope I don't wake up the next morning. That I just sleep forever."

"Are..." Riley asks, "are you OK?"

"I'll be alright," I sigh, "as soon as we kill Moon. You got any hobbies?"

"I mean," Riley shurgs, "not really. Unless you count my music, or, well, I do like hunting, but I mostly just flirt with cute girls I see when I'm not doing either of those."

"You into that?" I ask.

"That a problem?" Riley glares.

"Not at all," I smile, "I'm not gonna judge. I mean, I'm in no place to do so since I'm literally planning to kill my mom."

"You're pretty cool, you know that?"

"You too. You're like, my only friend on all of Mewni."

"And I'm going to help you through this."

"Really?"

"I promise. I'll help you get up in the morning. I'll give you reasons to wake up."

"Thanks Riley."

"What are friends for?"

We reach the stand and each get a calzone. I take a bite out of mine and it speaks, "If you continue to fuel yourself with hate and push away those who love you, you shall meet an early grave by your sister's hand."

"I..." I put down my calzone, "I think I've lost my appetite."

"That can't be good," Riley replies, "are you sure you're OK?"

"I'll be fine," I smile, "what's your calzone gonna say?"

Riley takes a bite, the calzone speaks, "if you do as you've been told, at the Ballard you'll both be killed."

"Do as your told?" I ask, "what does that even mean?"

"I dunno," Riley shurgs, "but these can be prevented. It'll be fine. Come on, let's walk and eat, look around."

Riley and I spend the rest of the day hanging out, and go our separate ways that evening. I go back to my room, holding the photo once more. I summon the All Seeing Eye once more, and see mom and dad with Marcie and Star, playing a board game. I wanna join them. They seem so happy. I wanna go back to those days. The only time I was happy...

I touch the eye. I wanna hug Marcie for some reason. I don't know why, but as I realize this my cheeks glow pink. However, I know better. Don't wanna cause drama with Johnson. I shut down the eye and hold the photo. I smile.

"As soon as she's dead," I remind myself, "I'm going home." With this hopeful thought, I go to sleep peacefully...
