Chapter 18: Sorceress of the Stars

Sienna Astra's POV

Tahimik lang akong nakatingin sa courtyard. I could still sense their stares on me. Cress told me na simula nung huling araw namin sa Lux Mountain, naging usap-usapan na naman ako. Great, instant celebrity na naman ako 'no? 

To my irritation, lumingon ako sa mga matang ang sasarap dukutin at sinamaan sila ng tingin. Agad-agad naman silang umiwas ng tingin. May mga nagkunyaring nagsusulat at may iba namang nagpapanggap na natutulog o nakikipag-usap sa katabi nila.

I let out a deep sigh. I miss my granny and her comfy house. My amazing bed and my peaceful room.

I turned my gaze at the seat beside me. He's not here, yet. Is he planning to skip class or he's just incredibly late like usual? I shrugged him off of my mind. Why should I care? He's nothing but an idiot psychotic jerk captain of my team. Yes. Definitely right, Ms. Serena. Two points for you.

"Good Wednesday, class! Sorry medyo late." mabilis kong ibinababa ang dalawang paa ko mula sa pagkakapatong sa mesang nasa harapan ko nung marinig ang guro kong huli sa klase ng 15 minutes. Where can I find the word 'medyo' doon?

Nagagalit sila pag kami late pero pag sila okay lang? Ayos.

"So, since Ms. Serena is back with her cute little sacred cat, let's talk about the history of the Cattus Caeleste and its 9 keys." He continued. I sighed and secretly rolled my eyes. Why does he have to put that topic right now? Now, the attention is on me again. Great. Thanks, Mr. Thayer. I owe you big time.

Even though I was frustrated, I suddenly felt excited. Well, who wouldn't be if your questions are finally going to have a proper and clear answer. Not just a myth or a guess, but a real one. The history.

Mr. Thayer looked at me and smiled. I frowned as I snapped my finger, causing him to change his ridiculous fixed look to my cat. Naglakad ito sa gitna ng klase papunta sa aming guro. It was moving swiftly as if she was a model of gods-and-goddesses' knows what.

What's with cats and their movements?

"What's with humans and the way they walk while swinging their arms?"

My face turned stone when I heard the cat's voice inside my head. Crap, I almost forgot that she could sometimes hear my thoughts.

I need to learn how to block her.

Kira stopped in front of Mr. Thayer. Students were all surprised to see her. Who wouldn't be? This cat surely knows how to define the word 'beautiful'. And, plus, I'm the only one who has my familiar right now. They probably left theirs at the dorm or the familiar lodge.

"Students, I know some of you knows what or who this cat is— and for some of you who doesn't... May I present you, the Cattus Caeleste. The Sacred animal of the Star goddess, Astraea." Mr. Thayer said.

He sat on the teacher's desk and began lecturing again. My gaze landed upon the courtyard once again— there, I saw who I've been expecting to see since this morning. He was walking comfortably while both of his hands were in his pocket. He knew that he was late, right? 

I just stared at him 'til he gets inside the building.

"—Then the goddess found an abandoned cat in the forest, completely alone and covered with dirt." I diverted my eyes to Mr. Thayer and continued listening. Hindi ko alam kung bakit pero tingin ako ng tingin sa pinto, nagbabaka-sakaling may kumatok. 

"The goddess was so upset because of how much she dotes on this animal was way—way opposite of what people feels about them. So, Astraea talked to her disciples, the angels of the sky organization, and to her priestesses—that her, Goddess of the Stars, purity and familiars have chosen a sacred animal and symbol." I, then looked at Kira. She jumped on the table and sat beside Mr. Thayer.

The keys created a tingling sound.

"Some were grateful, some weren't. Since the population of this creature in our world was so small, no one dared to hunt them down—with or without offerings to Astraea. The first cat that Astraea chose became the celestial bearer. Its job was to guard the 9 sacred keys of the 9 chosen constellations and became one of the familiars." 

Sobrang interesado na 'ko sa kwento at 'di ko namalayan na nandito na ang katabi ko. His scent and voice snapped me out of too much concentration. 

"Hey, interested?" He asked. I glared at him and didn't bother to speak—instead, I pushed his face to look at Mr. Thayer. I saw him roll his chinky eyes, making me chuckle.

"It has a power to create its own contract since the goddess chooses her holder, too. They call the chosen one, 'The Sorceress of The Stars'. Each key could open one of the 9 chosen constellations from 88 constellations and contains a power that will help the appointed Sorceress."

"These constellations were: Leo the lion, The Hunter Orion, The Mariner's compass; Pyxis, The Crown of the Vain Queen; Cassiopeia, Hydra The Cursed Dragon, Lyra the Harp, Gate of Kronos; Tempus, Ophiuchus The Black Serpent, and the Water bearer; Aquarius." Whenever Mr. Thayer mentions their name, each key lights up.

"For the past thousands of years, there were only 3 masters of the Cattus Caeleste." Each students were taking notes. Am I the only one that doesn't take this seriously?

My gaze flew and landed on Zero. My peaceful face expression turned stolid. His elbow was leaning on the table while his head was leaning on it. You get me? If you don't, then forget it.

He was staring at me—well, uhm surprisingly? 

I mouthed him 'What?' but he just shook his head and faced the front again. 

"Astraea is the name of the star goddess. Her name personifies the star itself." napalingon ulit ako sa kanya. Was he talking to me?

"So, the point is?" I asked. He chuckled and faced me again.

"Your whole name is, Sienna Astra Serena," He uncapped his light pen and started writing in the mid air. This pen can be operated without using any paper or something to right on. Basically, sa mid-air lang, "Sienna means Earth, Astra means Star and Serena means peaceful. Your whole name personifies, and emphasizes something. I'm curious of what your parents were thinking."

I flicked his ear to stop him from talking, "Shut up."

"Eherm. As for my knowledge of the ancient and modern history and the last time I checked, the last owner of Cattus Caeleste was a student of DA." Zero and I turned to look at Mr. Thayer. Napangiti ito ng makuha nya ang atensyon naming dalawa. 

"It was 20 years ago. Ms. Lea and I's best friend—her name was

Shara.

Shara Elena Aveniya. Mother of the current Sorceress of The Star."
