GOLD
-
"Are you ready for today, babe?" you asked your husband, Oliver. He was preparing to play for Sweden in the 2017 IIHF World Championship; the final game against Canada. If Sweden won, they were going to win Gold.
He sighed. "I guess so. I'm nervous," he admitted.
"You're going to do great," you told him, leaning in and giving him a kiss, "Trust me."
Oliver smiled, kissing your forehead before walking over to where your almost-two-year-old daughter, Olivia, sat in her car seat. She made a noise and Oliver picked her up, holding her in his arms. He smiled as he looked at her and you couldn't help but smile, too.
"She's coming to the game today, right?" Oliver asked, turning to you.
"Yeah. I think she's ready," you answered. "Plus, this is the perfect first game."
Oliver hummed, looking back at Olivia. "We'll make it a memorable one."
-
You gave Oliver a kiss, smiling at him. "Good luck, Oliver."
"I love you," he said.
"I love you, too. I'll see you after the game."
You picked Olivia up, giving Oliver one last glance before walking over to your seat. Olivia sat on your lap, trying to get a good view of the ice. You sighed, preparing yourself for the game ahead.
In the first three periods, the game had been exciting, but Sweden and Canada were tired 1-1 going into overtime. Olivia, who had been fairly quiet the whole game, had begun to look very tired. You considered taking her outside for a while but it was too late, as you didn't want to miss overtime. It was always the most stressful part of the game(besides the shootout, of course).
Overtime was exciting but in the end, neither team scored, meaning the two would go into the shootout. It seemed like you had to wait forever for everything to be figured out before it started. The first attempt by Sweden was stopped, as well as Canada's. Sweden's second shooter, Nicklas Backstrom, scored, causing the crowd to go wild. Canada's next shot was stopped, which meant Oliver was up.
You cheered loudly as he skated down the ice towards Canada's goalie, Pickard. He skated towards the left of the net before shooting the puck over one of Pickard's blockers and into the net. The stadium erupted into cheers again, celebrating Sweden's second goal, which put them up 2-0. You looked down at Olivia, smiling brightly at her.
"Your dad just scored!" you exclaimed. She smiled.
No one else scored in the rest of the shootout, meaning Sweden had won gold. After Lundqvist blocked the last shot Team Sweden skated onto the ice, piling on top of him as they celebrated their win. The crowd cheered loudly and you cheered with them. You were incredibly proud of your husband.
You met up with Oliver around a half and hour later after the team had finished celebrating. The first thing he did was pick Olivia up, who had looked very tired but seemed to perk up when she saw Oliver. She smiled brightly at him and he smiled back.
You walked over to him, giving him a long kiss. When you pulled away you smiled at him. "I am so proud of you," you told him.
He put Olivia down before hugging you tightly. "I love you so much."
