WANT YOU SO BAD
-
"If you don't love her, break up with her, Charlie," Clayton told him, rolling his eyes. "It's that simple."
"No, it's not that simple, Clayton," Charlie argues. "I don't wanna break her heart."
Clayton took a large gulp of water, leaning back in his chair and crossing his legs. "You're never going to be happy if you don't. Plus, it's not fair of you to lie to her."
Charlie groaned. Clayton was right, he supposed.
Charlie had a bit of a problem. Though he had a girlfriend, he was falling in love with another girl. (Your Name) was quiet; always listening in class, ignoring anyone else. Though he had barely talked to her, he was infatuated. She was so closed off but so interesting.
But Charlie wasn't a heartbreaker. He wanted nothing more than for him and Christina's relationship to end peacefully. However, he knew that wouldn't be the case. He knew that she was in madly love with him and that she'd be heartbroken if she found out he was leaving her.
"I don't know," Charlie whined, putting his head down on the table. "What if (Your Name) isn't what I expect her to be?"
"You have to talk to her. Invite her to the party this weekend or something."
Charlie looked up at Clayton with wide eyes. "Perfect."
That afternoon, Charlie hurried to catch up with (Your Name) after class. She always sat near the door, so she was always one of the first to leave. That meant he had to move quickly, catching up with her before she was out of reach.
(Your Name)!" he called, jogging up behind her. She turned back to see who had called her name and stopped when she spotted him.
"Charlie?" she questioned softly, and Charlie's heart soared at the fact that she knew his name.
"Hey," he greeted with a smile.
"What's up?" she asked, adjusting the bag on her shoulder.
"Um, I was wondering if you wanted to come to the big party my friends and I are hosting on Saturday," he explained nervously. "If you don't wanna come, that's fine, but—"
"Are you sure?" she interrupted, and Charlie could have sworn she had the voice of an angel—or what he thought one would sound like, at least. "I'm not usually included in these types of things."
"Yeah, of course," he said, trying to subtly wipe the palms of his hands on his jeans. "It's a shame we hadn't invited you sooner."
"In that case, I'll see if I can make it," she told him, smiling sweetly. "What time does it start?
"Oh, right," he said, stumbling over his words for a moment. "It starts at 9:30. It's at one of the frat houses, I'm not sure which."
"I'll find it," she said, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. "I'll see you there."
-
"Will you stop looking at yourself in the mirror? Let's go!" Clayton yelled from where he was standing at the door.
He and Charlie were about to leave for the party, and Charlie was beginning to become nervous. He would actually get time to know (Your Name), but she revealed a bigger problem; breaking up with Christina. He knew she would be at the party, and that he wouldn't be able to get far with (Your Name) with her around.
He looked at himself one last time before walking out of the bathroom.
"Finally," Clayton grumbled, opening the door and turning back to Charlie. "You're breaking up with her tonight, right?"
"Yeah," Charlie sighed, nodding. "I think so."
It was almost 10 P.M. by the time Charlie got the guts to tell Christina. He walked up to her as she stood with a crowd of her friends. He pulled her away from the crowd.
"Hey, can I talk to you?" he asked, having to speak loudly over the music.
"Of course, baby," she replied, a playful smile on his face. How Charlie hated how he'd have to wipe that away. "What's up?"
"We should go somewhere quieter," he suggested.
"If you have something to say, say it here," she told him, putting her hand on her hip.
Charlie sighed. Of course. "I think we should break up," he told her quickly, bracing for her reaction.
"What?" she hissed, but Charlie knew she had heard him.
"We should break up," he repeated anyway.
"Wow. I can't believe you," she scoffed. "I thought things were good between us. I guess you're nothing but a fucking liar!"
She stomped off, and Charlie looked around at the people that were staring. In the crowd, he saw (Your Name) looking at him with wide eyes.
"(Your Name)," he spoke, walking over to her.
"Was that Christina?" she questioned, just loud enough for Charlie to hear.
"Yeah. I broke up with her," he explained, looking away. "She didn't take it too well."
"I can see that," she said, chuckling. "Why'd you break up with her?"
He almost stumbled over his words as he replied. "If you want to go somewhere quieter, I'll explain."
They ended up outside, walking down the sidewalk together. Though she was wearing long sleeves, the cold air cooled (Your Name)'s skin, causing her to shiver.
"Do you want my sweatshirt?" Charlie questioned, noticing this.
"Oh no, it's fine," she dismissed quickly. "I wouldn't want you to be cold."
"I won't be," he told her before pulling off the gray Boston University hockey sweatshirt and handing it to her.
She smiled shyly before pulling it on. It was a couple of sizes too big, and she had to roll up the sleeves to reveal her hands, but she didn't mind. "Thank you," she said, taking in the warmth the thick sweatshirt provided.
"Of course," he said. They continued to walk again, sticking close to each other. "I guess I should explain now, right?" (Your Name) nodded. Charlie sighed, watching his breath disappear into the air. "I guess I just fell out of love with her. I mean, I still feel something for her, but it's not as strong as it used to be. I felt guilty about staying with her. I didn't want to break her heart, but I didn't see any other choice."
(Your Name) thought for a moment, shoving her hands in her pocket. "I think that's the best way you could have handled it, Charlie," she told him.
"And I think I'm falling for someone else," he admitted quickly.
"Really?" she questioned, her eyebrows raising in surprise.
"Yeah. I've liked her for a while, but I finally got to talk to her and she's everything I thought she'd be," Charlie explained. "She's amazing, really." He moved to stand in front of her and they both stopped walking. She looked up at him, her curiosity visible in her eyes. "Can I say something crazy?"
"Of course, Charlie," she replied softly.
"I've barely known you for 24 hours but my god am I in love with you, (Your Name)," he admitted, staring into her eyes.
She looked at her for a long moment—almost too long for Charlie to bare —before raising her arms and taking his face in her covered hands. She smiled before leaning in and pressing their lips together.
