RUN AWAY WITH ME

-

You stared at your reflection in the mirror, eyes scanning over the beautiful, pristine white dress you wore. You had light make up on, with some mascara and lightly colored eyeshadow and a contour that admittedly made you look pretty good.

It was your wedding day and you were terrified.

When (Fiancé's Name) had dropped down on one knee on the beach that fateful night six months ago, you had been filled with happiness. You were to marry the man you had been dating for two years and loved to no end.

However, you began to start seeing the end, and that all started with an old friend; Johnny Gaudreau.

You had known Johnny since you were young but you had lost touch as you went off the college and he continued his hockey career, eventually making it to the NHL. However, you had met him again, shortly after you had gotten engaged, and stay in touch. Your life had been chaos ever since.

He left you with a very big problem. You were falling in love with him and out of love with your fiancé.

You had never felt anything for Johnny, even though he had liked you for a long time, so your feelings left you a little confused. You thought you loved (Fiancé's Name) with all your heart but you didn't feel the way you used to. Instead, you felt those feelings when you were with Johnny and not him.

You didn't know what to do and it terrified you.

(Friend's Name) laughed loudly from behind you, startling you. "Don't look so nervous, (Your Name). It's your wedding day!"

You chewed on your lip. You hadn't told her about how you felt; you hadn't told anyone. Instead of spilling the words you wanted to say so badly, you sighed. "I don't think you can blame me," you said, forcing the joke out.

"I guess so. Everything will be perfect, (Your Name), trust me," she said as she looked at your through the mirror. As you stared at your reflection, you felt bad. (Fiancé's Name) had spent so much time and money on your wedding and here you were, falling in love with someone that wasn't him and seriously debating calling off the wedding to be with him. The feeling made you sick to your stomach.

You continued talking with (Friend's Name) and the other girls for a while, though you were very quiet and kept chewing on your lip to the point where you were sure it was bleeding. Eventually, they all left, leaving you to yourself for a little while. Eventually, someone else joined you in the room.

It was the man you had feared to see; Johnny.

He stood in the doorway, his eyes raking over your for a moment. You did the same to him, admiring the black suit he was wearing, which looked very good on him.

He walked into the room, letting the door close behind you as he let out a breathy, "You look beautiful."

"Thank you," you said, looking away from him and glancing at the floor. It was awkwardly quiet for a moment, the tension almost unbearable.

"Are you nervous?" Johnny asked.

You bit your bottom lip again, tugging it out from between your teeth before replying. "Yeah, I am."

Johnny smiled shyly; the smile that had sent your world to hell. "I'm sure the wedding will be great. You have nothing to worry about."

You didn't reply. Your thoughts were racing and your heart felt like it was tightening in your chest and you didn't know what to do. You wanted to cry.

Making a choice, you stepped towards Johnny. You reached out towards him, grabbing onto his arms as he stepped closer to you. "If you asked me to drop it all right here, I would."

He looked down at you, his eyes closing slightly as he spoke, his voice barely a whisper, "Why would you do that?"

"Because I'm in love with you, Johnny," you admitted, almost beginning to sob when you finally let the words out. Your lips quivered but you continued. "I've been in love with you for the past six months and I just can't marry him because I'm not in love with him. I want you, Johnny."

He stared down at you for a moment. He looked like he was thinking. "Would you reallyー" You nodded your head, answering the question you knew he had. He leaned closer to you, his lips almost touching yours. "I want nothing more than for you to drop everything and be with me. I want you, (Your Name)."

Pulling away from his lips for a moment, you took the veil off your head, taking the little bobby pins out of your hair that had been styled for almost an hour that morning. After doing so, you leaned closer to Johnny. "Okay," you whispered before pressing your lips to his.
